What is a Private Estate Manager?

A Private Estate Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing the daily operations, maintenance, and staff of a private estate or large residential property. Their duties often include managing household staff, coordinating property maintenance, handling budgets and vendors, and ensuring the smooth running of the estate. Estate managers may also organize events, manage security, and act as the primary point of contact for the property owners. This role requires excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills, as well as discretion and attention to detail.

What Does a Private Estate Manager Do?

As a private estate manager, your job is to oversee all aspects of a particular property. This includes ensuring regular upkeep and maintenance, hiring and training household staff, and ensuring the property is ready for an event at the owner's request. Many private estate managers help run the property as a business. This can involve arranging for tours, selecting locations for wedding ceremonies, or leasing out ballrooms or entire buildings for parties. Estate managers hold the highest authority on the property short of the owners themselves and often have broad discretion to handle staff and funds. Many private estate managers live on the estate itself or extremely close to the property. It is possible to manage a large estate remotely, but this is relatively rare.

What are some common challenges a Private Estate Manager faces, and how can they be effectively addressed?

Private Estate Managers often encounter challenges such as balancing the demands of property maintenance, managing a diverse staff, and handling last-minute requests from principals. Effective communication, strong organizational skills, and adaptive problem-solving are key to addressing these issues. Building a reliable network of vendors and fostering a collaborative team environment can also help ensure smooth estate operations and client satisfaction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Private Estate Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Private Estate Manager, you need expertise in property management, budgeting, maintenance coordination, and often a relevant degree or hospitality background. Familiarity with property management software, smart home technology, and vendor management systems is typically required. Outstanding leadership, discretion, and communication skills help build trust with principals and ensure team effectiveness. These skills are vital to efficiently managing complex estates, upholding high service standards, and maintaining confidentiality for high-net-worth clients.

Overview

Private Chef | Frisco, Texas

The Family & The Food

DM Estate Staffing is working with a warm, active family of four based in Frisco, Texas, who is looking for a talented Private Chef to join their household. With two busy, health-conscious parents and two curious, food-loving boys (ages 7 and 5) who are equally passionate about sports and whatever is happening in the kitchen, this is a household with no shortage of energy, appetite, or enthusiasm.

These are true foodies who eat broadly and adventurously - Asian, Mexican, seafood-forward dishes, beautiful steaks, and the occasional well-earned cheat day. They source from a trusted local butcher, prioritize organic ingredients, and have great purveyor relationships to share - though they very much welcome a Chef's expertise in sourcing. The boys eat what the parents eat - no separate menus, no chicken nuggets - and both have impressive palates to match.

They are not looking for someone to execute meals and disappear. They want a Chef who is warm, patient, and genuinely comfortable with kids and dogs in and out of the kitchen - someone who feels like a natural extension of the family rather than a vendor passing through. Culinary skill is a must, and creativity, a health-conscious mindset, and a genuine love of cooking for a family are equally important. A minimum of 5 years of culinary experience is required - fine dining, luxury hospitality, or private household backgrounds are all welcome. Private estate experience is a plus, but what matters most is that your skills, your creativity, and your personality are the right fit for this wonderful family.

Schedule

  • Wednesday through Sunday preferred; two consecutive days off
  • Daily coverage includes breakfast (9am), lunch (12pm), afternoon snack (2:30pm), and dinner (5pm)
  • Dinner party and entertaining support will be requested occasionally

Responsibilities

  • Prepare daily breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, and dinner for a family of four
  • Shop for and source fresh, organic, high-quality ingredients from trusted purveyors
  • Develop weekly menus with some creative freedom while keeping the family's dietary preferences and health goals in mind
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked kitchen at all times
  • Be mindful of dietary restrictions | allergies and preferences for family and guests
  • Support dinner parties and private entertaining as needed
  • Facilitate occasional cooking classes, including kid-friendly sessions
  • Communicate proactively with the family around menus, groceries, and scheduling
  • Manage kitchen inventory and equipment needs

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of culinary experience is required - fine dining, luxury hospitality, or private household backgrounds are all welcome. Private estate experience is a plus, but what matters most is that your skills, your standards, and your personality are the right fit for this family.
  • Formal culinary training is preferred
  • Strong command of diverse cuisines
  • Health-conscious cooking philosophy with a focus on organic, whole ingredients
  • Comfortable working in an active family home with children and pets present
  • Warm, professional, and adaptable - someone who blends into a household naturally
  • Proactive communicator with strong organizational skills
  • Purveyor and sourcing relationships a plus
  • Openness to occasional travel a plus
  • Valid driver's license preferred
  • Legally authorized to work in the US
  • Must be within a commutable distance to Frisco, Texas - no out of area candidates will be considered
  • Must be able to pass a detailed background check and provide excellent employment references

Compensation and Benefits

  • $130,000 - $150,000++ | depending on experience
  • Monthly healthcare stipend
  • 10 days PTO + 5 sick days
  • Discretionary bonus
