Job description

Direct Counsel is seeking a Healthcare Privacy & Compliance Associate with 2โ€“4 years of experience to join a nationally recognized Healthcare Privacy and Compliance team within a premier Digital Assets and Data Management practice. This is an outstanding opportunity for an attorney interested in the intersection of healthcare, privacy, cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, and emerging technologies.

The ideal candidate will have experience in privacy, cybersecurity, healthcare regulatory matters, or litigation, along with a strong interest in advising healthcare organizations on complex compliance and incident response matters.

Responsibilities
  • Advise healthcare organizations on privacy, cybersecurity, and compliance matters
  • Support clients responding to data security incidents, including:
    • Ransomware attacks
    • Business email compromise incidents
    • Other privacy and cybersecurity events
  • Assist clients in responding to state and federal regulatory investigations
  • Counsel healthcare clients regarding HIPAA compliance and privacy obligations
  • Conduct privacy compliance assessments and proactive compliance reviews
  • Provide incident response preparedness training and counseling
  • Advise clients on emerging legal and regulatory issues affecting the healthcare industry, including artificial intelligence and evolving privacy regulations
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across privacy, healthcare, litigation, and cybersecurity practices
Qualifications
  • 2โ€“4 years of privacy, cybersecurity, healthcare regulatory, or litigation experience
  • Demonstrated interest in healthcare, privacy, and cybersecurity law
  • Understanding of healthcare operations and HIPAA compliance requirements
  • Experience with privacy incidents, cybersecurity matters, regulatory investigations, or healthcare compliance preferred
  • AmLaw 200 law firm experience preferred
  • Experience at a boutique healthcare or privacy-focused law firm is a plus
  • Federal judicial clerkship experience is a plus
  • Experience working with government regulators is a plus
  • Outstanding writing, analytical, project management, and communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and strategic judgment
  • Interest in technology, data security, and emerging legal issues
Compensation & Benefits
  • For Chicago, the expected salary range is $235,000 โ€“ $285,000
