PRINTING PRESS OPERATOR JOB SUMMARY:   To lead the press crew in the everyday operation of the press, to ensure that we get make-readies and runs in the most efficient manner possible to achieve top quality production. They understand and align business operations and the Department as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives.

Primary Responsibilities are, but not limited to the following:

 

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Setup and adjust press
  • Troubleshoot and correct quality/machine problems
  • Review job bag to ensure proper specifications
  • Direct crews to stay on task
  • Control color to proper delta E
  • Ability to use densitometer
  • Perform PM and minor repairs
  • Work with Printing Manager to suggest potential improvements (productivity, process & quality)
  • Ensure necessary color or register corrections and/or press adjustments prior to production run to meet and maintain the quality of specifications of the work
  • Ability to read and follow job specifications to determine press set-up materials needed to run the job successfully
  • Adjusts press machine parts, such as feeder and delivery mechanisms, suction grippers, guides, feed wheels, jogging devices, tapes, and cams, using hand tools.
  • Assist in removing and replacing worn rollers and adjusting pressure between rollers of press, using hand tools.
  • Wash blankets and cleans ink and ink distributing rollers and ink fountains, using ink solvent and cleaning mechanism on press.
  • Primary point man for maintenance of the press.
  • Performs other duties as required to achieve the overall goals and objectives of the Company.

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior experience in a similar Press Operator role required
  • Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Experience operating hand jacks, electric pallet jacks and forklifts preferred
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must have excellent attendance, be able to work independently and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

SKILLS:

  • LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

  • REASONING ABILITY - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

  • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS - Company issued Fork Truck Operator's License

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required
  • One year of professional working experience, preferred in a manufacturing environment

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  • SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:
    • Schedules are 8-hour shifts Monday - Friday. 3rd shift schedule Sunday - Thursday.
    • Employees are required to work overtime to include up to 12-hour shifts.
    • Employees must have the ability to work alternate schedules and overtime that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends for coverage and be punctual while doing so.

 

  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • Standing and walking frequently (34-66% of the time), depending on changing job assignment, for extended periods
    • Awkward and/or repetitive movements
    • Ability to bend/stoop, squat, climb, reach above shoulder and reach at waist or lower, twist, stretch, carry (up to 28 lbs.), kneel, grasp, fingering, and push/pull (force up to 50 lbs. for 200 feet) occasionally
    • Lifting up to 50 lbs. frequently (from floor to waist) and lifting up to 20 lbs. occasionally
    • Requires use of both feet on a continuous basis
    • Requires use of both hands for simple grasping, firm grasping, fine manipulation and repetitive actions on a continuous basis
    • Ability to read, write, hear, see, speak and have agility on a continuous basis
    • Ability to make independent decisions, apply reasoning and discern colors
    • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices
    • Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment
    • Work in areas of fluctuating temperature and loud noises
    • PPE required: Steel-toed/safety footwear, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Cut resistant Safety Gloves, Hair Net, Beard Net
