The Traveling Ink Technician provides technical and operational support to multiple customer locations by managing ink blending, color matching, troubleshooting, inventory management, and quality control activities utilizing the Flint Group Standard Ink Management System. This role serves as a flexible resource, supporting customer operations during vacations, leaves of absence, staffing shortages, new customer implementations, business growth, and other operational needs.

The Traveling Ink Technician must be comfortable working independently in a variety of manufacturing environments while quickly adapting to new customer operations and maintaining Flint Group's high standards for safety, quality, and customer service.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Ensure compliance with all customer and Flint Group safety requirements and policies
  • Maintain housekeeping and 5S standards within customer ink rooms
  • Travel to customer locations as assigned to provide onsite technical and operational support.
  • Operate various types and models of Ink Dispensing Equipment and software to maintain accurate production, inventory, and batch documentation.
  • Perform color matching and color adjustments to meet customer specifications.
  • Monitor quality control processes to ensure products consistently meet customer requirements.
  • Support customer press operations by troubleshooting ink, color, and press-related issues.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels and manage ink usage efficiently.
  • Evaluate and process press returns for recycling and reuse when appropriate.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers and internal Flint Group teams.
  • Support new customer startups, business transitions, and special projects as needed.
  • Perform additional technical, operational, and customer support duties as assigned.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
  • Experience in printing, ink blending, color matching, or related manufacturing environments required.
  • Flexographic printing experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience utilizing X rite, Color Cert and Autura or similar color management software preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to different customer environments and priorities.
  • Strong customer service mindset with a commitment to delivering exceptional support.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) required.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
  • Travel is required up to 100% of the time.
  • Travel throughout North America locations,  including potential for occasional travel to Canada.
  • Must be willing and able to travel by automobile and commercial airline.
  • Flexibility to travel on short notice based on customer and business needs.
  • Travel expenses, lodging, and meals provided in accordance with company policy.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work safely in manufacturing and pressroom environments.
  • Ability to distinguish colors accurately for quality inspection and color matching.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including occasional weekends or extended hours, based on customer needs.
