Job description

Overview
Microsoft is a company where passionate innovators come to collaborate, envision what can be and take their careers further. This is a world of more possibilities, more innovation, more openness, and the sky is the limit thinking in a cloud-enabled world.
Microsoft's Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Our mission is to build the data platform for the age of AI, powering a new class of data-first applications and driving a data culture.
Within Microsoft Fabric, the Azure Monitor team builds services that enable customers to monitor, detect, troubleshoot, and mitigate issues with their services through an increasingly agentic experience. Azure Monitor includes Log Analytics, Application Insights, Container Insights, Hosted Prometheus, Azure Managed Grafana, and more. Additionally, Azure Monitor is the platform upon which Microsoft Sentinel is built. We have a multi-billion dollar business that is growing rapidly, and we run some of the world's highest scale observability services both for Microsoft internally and for our external customers, processing over 1.5 Exabytes of logs daily and tracking over 100 billion active metrics.
We are seeking a Principal Technical Program Manager to lead strategy, architecture direction, and execution for Azure Monitor's data collection, telemetry pipeline, and configuration management platform. This leader will define and drive the long-term vision for how customers onboard, configure, govern, collect, route, transform, and manage telemetry across Azure, multicloud, hybrid, and edge environments.
This role requires deep product leadership, technical credibility, customer obsession, and the ability to influence across large engineering organizations. You will work with engineering, architecture, platform, support, field, and executive stakeholders to modernize and simplify the end-to-end telemetry collection experience for Azure customers at hyperscale.
As a Principal Technical Program Manager, you will shape investments that impact the foundation of Azure's observability ecosystem and directly influence how customers monitor and operate mission-critical workloads.
We do not just value differences or different perspectives. We seek them out and invite them in so we can tap into the collective power of everyone in the company. As a result, our customers are better served.
Microsoft's mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
Responsibilities
  • Drive strategic investment decisions that improve scalability, reliability, operational simplicity, and customer adoption.
  • Partner with engineering leaders to evolve collection architectures supporting the data collection, pipeline, and routing capabilities across the product breadth.
  • Influence architecture decisions that balance customer flexibility, cost efficiency, and platform reliability.
  • Lead cross-org initiatives spanning Azure infrastructure, platform services, security, compliance, developer tools, and AI services.
  • Lead highly ambiguous and strategically important initiatives from concept through delivery.
  • Build deep relationships with strategic customers and partners.
  • Embody our culture and values.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
