Job description

Position Description Precinct One's Mission Precinct One is committed to becoming a national model for delivering responsive public service that utilizes inclusive, innovative, and collaborative approaches to improve the quality of life, advance equality of opportunity, and promote the fair treatment of all people in Harris County. What you will do at Precinct One Harris County - Commissioner Precinct One has several opportunities for Operators within our Road & Bridge sub-division. The successful candidates will offer a responsive service to all Precinct One constituents by maintaining county roadways, right-of-way, sidewalks, curbs, ditches, and culverts Essential Duties and Responsibilities General duties include the repair of potholes, sinkholes, street curbs, and blowing and cleaning culverts and inlets in the neighborhoods we serve.

Specifically seeking candidates with experience grading ditches and installing/repairing culverts to ensure water flows freely to the flood control ditches. Employees are expected to comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including county safety standards. As an essential employee, you will also provide assistance during emergency events (i.e., flooding, ice storm, etc.)

Work hours are 7:00 - 3:30 and are subject to change as needed. Other duties as assigned. equivalent Experience: Operator II - Three (3) years of experience operating heavy machinery/equipment in a road and bridge environment Operator III - Five (5) years of experience operating heavy machinery/equipment in a road and bridge environment Operator IV - Seven (7) years of experience operating heavy machinery/equipment in a road and bridge environment Licensure: Commercial Driver's License Class A or B (State of Texas) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Apply knowledge of driving laws and roadway construction Perform pre-trip visual safety inspection of vehicles and heavy equipment; including checking fluid levels and tires, maintaining vehicle cleanliness and performing routine maintenance. NOTE: Qualifying education, experience, knowledge, and skills must be documented on your job application. About the Road & Bridge Division The Road & Bridge Department's mission is to offer, a responsive public service while executing a high level of maintenance on Precinct One roads, bridges, hike and bike trails, and county right-of-ways to improve mobility and the quality of life for the constituents of Precinct One. About Precinct One There are four precincts in Harris County. The four elected commissioners, along with an elected county judge, serve as members of Harris County Commissioners Court, the administrative head of the county's government.

With approximately 1.1 million residents, Harris County Precinct One is a diverse, urban precinct that covers 363 square miles. Precinct One's multi-racial, multi-ethnic population is roughly 39 percent African American, 37 percent Latino, 18 percent Anglo, 5 percent Asian and 1 percent other. Precinct One, which includes 991 miles of road, stretches south to Brazoria County and reaches into eastern and northern sections of Harris County

The Precinct's territory includes a large section of Downtown Houston, including the Downtown Harris County Courthouse Complex, Toyota Center, Minute Maid Park and the BBVA Compass Stadium.
