We need someone who can support our current product line while driving innovation for Devices software features. To excel in this role, you'll need to be a seasoned leader with experience in leading software teams.

You'll be making crucial decisions on design, staffing, requirements, and timelines, balancing risks and trade offs.
In this position, you'll collaborate with partner with local and worldwide teams to shape the future of Amazon devices and services. Your focus will be on creating easy-to-use products that run efficiently on minimal power. You'll lead our firmware efforts, bringing new consumer products to market and interacting with teams across Fire TV,Alexa, Ereaders,Tablets, Ring, Blink,Eero and Amazon.

Key job responsibilities
Team Leadership & People Management
* Lead and mentor a two-pizza team of 8-12 Software Development Engineers focused on infrastructure provisioning and device lifecycle
* Conduct regular 1:1s, deliver continuous feedback, and drive career development for all team members
* Recruit, hire, and onboard top engineering talent in alignment with organizational growth goals
* Foster an inclusive team culture that promotes innovation, collaboration, and operational excellence
* Manage performance reviews, compensation planning, and promotion processes
Technical Strategy & Execution
* Own the technical roadmap and drive delivery of features and bug fixes across Amazon's devices portfolio
* Lead architectural decisions for scalable, reliable provisioning workflows supporting devices fleet
* Partner with engineering and product teams across Fire TV, Tablet, eReaders, Alexa, Ring, and Blink to ensure the right firmware strategy and instrumentation architecture is applied for collecting the right device signals
* Lead incident response and operational excellence initiatives, reducing provisioning failures and improving time-to-production metrics
* Define, establish, and monitor KPIs to drive consistency across a multi-device portfolio
Cross-Functional Collaboration
* Collaborate with senior leadership and peer SDMs to align team priorities with broader Devices organization objectives
* Work closely with Principal Engineers and Senior SDEs to define technical standards and best practices
* Represent the team in organizational planning, resource allocation discussions, and technical reviews
Operational Excellence & Innovation
* Drive continuous improvement in software development practices, including CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and deployment automation
* Champion operational metrics and mechanisms to improve system reliability, reduce toil, and accelerate delivery
* Balance short-term delivery commitments with long-term technical debt reduction and system modernization
* Promote a culture of experimentation and learning, encouraging adoption of new technologies and methodologies
Business Impact & Communication
* Translate business requirements into technical execution plans with clear milestones and success criteria
* Communicate team progress, risks, and achievements to senior leadership through written narratives and business reviews
* Contribute to organizational strategy discussions, providing insights on technical capabilities and constraints
* Manage stakeholder expectations and build trust through consistent delivery and transparent communication
A day in the life
The Software Development Manager will work with their team to deliver device software capabilities to enhance customer experiences with connected devices. You will work closely with your stakeholders to prioritize and schedule engineering work

You will be responsible for all engineering team members, coaching and mentoring as they work to execute a set of agile stories to deliver the required features. You will also work with your direct reports to remove roadblocks, help with career development and coach the team on best practices and agile processes.
