Job description

Director, Clinical Practice - Unity Hospital
Rochester, NY
SUMMARY:
Responsible to provide oversight and direction in establishing and maintaining a system for developing, reviewing, approving and disseminating standards of professional nursing practice for Unity Hospital. Ensures practice policy, procedures and protocols are lead by best practice and evidenced based data. This position also provides oversight and management of the clinical informatics processes and is responsible to oversee the transition, education and implementation of the electronic medical record as it relates to nursing practice. This oversight includes the practice and work flow processes for all acute clinical services in the health system. Participates and guides clinical education components that must tie to evidenced based professional nursing practice. Provide superior customer service by modeling the Brand Promise and Core Values.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides oversight and direction in establishing and maintaining a system to comprehensively disseminate standards of clinical practice and incorporating best practice and nursing research into bedside practice
  • Implements clinical standards of practice in all clinical departments licensed under Unity Hospital, assuring evidenced based practice and established standards of care
  • Assist in reviewing and making recommendations on policy issues regarding clinical practice and coordinates with appropriate disciplines accordingly. Coordinates approval through appropriate hospital nursing and medical committees
  • Directs educational efforts assuring effective communication and coordination of clinical practice initiatives among various departments of the nursing infrastructure
  • Provides oversight and direction to clinical service departments in developing specialty practice standards assuring standard practice guidelines as appropriate
  • Provides oversight and direction to activities of clinical informatics nurses and the electronic medical record implementation.
  • Participates in quality reviews and clinical record review to ensure standards of care are compliant with policy and best practice standards. Evaluation and analysis of clinical practice measurements and outcomes. Makes appropriate recommendations for change accordingly
  • In conjunction with the VP Nursing/Patient Care Services, develops and implements the professional practice model for nursing and may act as Magnet Program Coordinator.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's Degree in Nursing required as of January 2027.
  • NYS RN License

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ten years of progressive acute clinical experience with extensive experience in policy and procedure development, clinical process management and nursing education.
  • Demonstrated supervisory or management experience required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of accrediting bodies and DOH standards required.
  • ANCC national certification preferred

EDUCATION:
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:
BLS - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (AHA), RN - Registered Nurse - New York State Education Department (NYSED)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
