Job description

Automation Engineer – Data Centers (SCADA / Ignition / PLC )

We are seeking a Controls / Automation Engineer with hands-on experience in PLC programming, SCADA development, and system integration to support our mission-critical data center infrastructure. This role focuses on developing, deploying, and maintaining industrial control systems used in high-availability environments.

The ideal candidate has experience with Allen-Bradley (Rockwell) PLCs, Ignition SCADA, and industrial networking, and is comfortable working in fast-paced, uptime-sensitive environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, program, and maintain PLC control logic primarily using Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation platforms (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, MicroLogix, Micro800, Studio 5000)
  • Design and configure Ignition SCADA applications, including HMI screens, alarming, trending, and data visualization
  • Integrate PLCs, SCADA systems, and third-party devices using protocols such as Modbus TCP/IP, BACnet/IP, and OPC UA
  • Support Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) and other critical infrastructure systems within data centers
  • Assist in system architecture, controls design, and network layout for industrial automation systems
  • Participate in factory testing, site commissioning, and system startup activities
  • Diagnose and resolve control system, SCADA, and communication issues in live environments
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, mechanical, and IT/OT engineers
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, including control narratives

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, or a related field
  • 1+ years of hands-on experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, or SCADA development
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC programming (Studio 5000 / RSLogix500)
  • Experience developing or supporting SCADA/HMI systems, preferably Ignition
  • Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Modbus TCP, BACnet/IP, OPC UA)
  • Solid understanding of industrial networking fundamentals (IP addressing, subnets, switches, VLANs)
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, control diagrams, and P&IDs
  • Willingness to travel for commissioning and deployment activities
  • Candidate must be based in Eastern or Central time zone
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in data centers, critical infrastructure, or high-availability environments
  • Familiarity with EPMS systems and power monitoring
  • Exposure to redundant system architectures and failover strategies
  • Experience with Ignition Perspective
  • Experience working with version control, change management, and structured deployment processes
