Job description

Job Summary:
Qualcomm is a leading technology company seeking a Kubernetes Platform Engineer to assist with the construction, deployment, management, automation, and troubleshooting of high-performance Kubernetes clusters. The role involves monitoring cluster performance, developing automation scripts, and working on various project tasks to enhance the Kubernetes platform.
Responsibilities:
• Assist with the construction, deployment, management, automation, and troubleshooting of high performance bare-metal on-prem and cloud-based multi-tenant Kubernetes clusters using Rancher.
• Monitor performance and availability of all Kubernetes clusters (including high performance GPU acceleration).
• Develop and deploy platform automation scripts and software.
• Join a mature and experienced team of Kubernetes platform administrators with a wide range of skill levels.
• Participate in project work and coaching from mentors.
• Implement self-healing system automation.
• Test, validate, and deploy new Kubernetes versions.
• Transform existing platform automation to make use of new Kubernetes functionality.
• Test and integrate new high performance bare-metal compute platforms.
• Implement and troubleshoot novel Kubernetes multi-tenancy patterns such as vcluster.
• Migrate Gatekeeper OPA policies to Validating Admission Policy.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Comfortable using and developing on Linux as a primary OS, especially Ubuntu.
• 2+ years Kubernetes administration experience.
• Proficiency in Kustomize or Helm (preferably both).
• Intermediate knowledge of Kubernetes CNI networking internals (notably Cilium).
• Direct experience deploying and maintaining enterprise Kubernetes clusters.
• Proficiency with Docker/ContainerD and Linux container internals.
• Advanced proficiency with git and Github.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes control plane architecture and troubleshooting.
• Intermediate proficiency with Python or Go.
• Intermediate proficiency with bash scripting.
• Comfortable with Agile project management in JIRA.
• 3+ years of IT-related work experience with a Bachelor's degree.
• 5+ years of IT-related work experience without a Bachelor’s degree.
Preferred:
• Recent CKAD and CKA certifications. CKS certification is a plus.
• Bare-metal Kubernetes management with Rancher, RKE2, and Cilium.
• Cloud Kubernetes management (GKE, EKS and AKS).
• Datadog log and metrics collection; dashboarding.
• Open Policy Agent (OPA) and Gatekeeper OPA.
• Kubernetes Ingress/Gateway API implementations.
• Deployment and management of Portworx and MetalLB.
• Creating CI/CD workflows using Github Actions.
• Experience with GPU-accelerated workloads in Kubernetes.
