Job description

JOB SUMMARY
Designs, installs, configures, maintains and performs system integration testing of server and storage platforms which includes related operating systems, utilities, and hardware. Responsible for troubleshooting server and storage problems as reported by users. Researches, evaluates and recommends software and hardware products. Supports Web access and electronic messaging services and maintains a secure systems environment. Provides new hardware specifications to users based on application needs and anticipated growth.
PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS includes the following, other duties may be assigned:
  • Researching and gathering functional requirements for specific interfaces.
  • Manages and supports servers running operating systems such as Windows server, Linux, and VMWare.
  • Manages and supports Windows-based core services such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, etc.
  • Manages and supports virtualized Infrastructure (VMware Horizon, VDI, vSAN, NSX, etc.).
  • Modernizes/enhances systems and infrastructure monitoring with tools such as SolarWinds.
  • Solicits formal proposals and quotes from vendors for the selection, purchase, and implementation of hardware, software, and support contracts.
  • Follows and creates standard operating procedures for installation of operating-system software and related products including third-party tools, security patches and version releases.
  • Maintains proper documentation of system designs and configuration changes.
  • Provides the appropriate solutions to allow for secure connectivity to client for such purposes as remote access/ telecommuting, BYOD, secure transfer of data, and interoperability of information systems with other internal or external systems as required.
  • Performs, monitors, and manages physical and virtual security maintenance (access, permissions, firmware, application upgrades/features).
  • Collaborates with Information Security, peers, and vendor partners to assist in the development of appropriate policies, procedures, and controls to ensure the integrity and security of the information systems.
  • Assesses the risk of published system security vulnerabilities, and if applicable, tests and applies pertinent security patches.
  • Builds and maintains a valid lab network environment to facilitate the testing of such things as system recovery, OS upgrades, server migrations, and application patching.
  • Manages backup of Enterprise data. Supports both on premises and Cloud backup systems. Plans and documents the process and procedures for system backups and recovery. Participates in Disaster Recovery planning and testing as required.
  • Architecture design and maintenance of the Next Generation Distributed Storage on IP transport, including distributed block storage, object storage, and file storage.
  • Performance tune storage.
  • Build technology policy, engineering standards, methodologies, task-plans, and best practices.
  • Responsible for complex provisioning, advanced maintenance, data replication, disaster recovery, data migration, and documentation for our Storage and Backup environments.
  • Write technical design and build documentation for system infrastructure.
  • IO and stress test products and technologies to understand and verify their limits to increase understanding and improve stability.
  • Contribute to the design, configuration, and usage standards.
  • Participation in departmental on-call rotation schedule.

JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree, or a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a related field and technical support, is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field is preferred.
  • If the applicant does not possess an AAS or Bachelor's degree, they must provide highest level of education completed, minimum high school diploma or equivalent required.

Training and Experience
  • 5+ years' experience server and storage management, HPe experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of designing, installing, maintaining and configuring enterprise services infrastructure and applications based on Microsoft Windows Server and VMware.
  • Requires a maturing level of analytical ability to find solutions to increasingly difficult technical or administrative problems, to determine economic feasibility or options available, and to assess time involved in system changes. Thorough documentation skills are also required
  • Must be able to demonstrate experience with VMWare, Windows Server Operating System, storage systems, data retention, hardware facilities and experience with system design, capacity planning and capacity management
  • Requires hands-on expertise with VMware, Windows Server, backup and restore application, and enterprise storage systems.
  • Demonstrate a high level of technical expertise to support complex Storage & Backup devices, including SAN, NAS, and Backup solutions across all tiers
  • Strong understanding of Datacenter consolidation, IaaS, private cloud, virtualization, assessment and capacity planning technologies, and best practices
