Job Description:

The Portfolio Manager is responsible for leading the commercial strategy and execution of the Everyday Cushioning portfolio. This role owns portfolio decisions across the full lifecycle, from ideation and development through commercialization, optimization, and phase-out, with accountability for pricing, product mix, portfolio economics, and profitable growth.

The Portfolio Manager partners closely with sales, operations, supply chain, manufacturing, R&D, finance, and marketing to translate market insights into actionable portfolio priorities, support go-to-market execution, and ensure the portfolio is positioned for both long-term competitiveness and short-term performance.

This role is located in Charlotte, NC on a hybrid basis coming into the office Monday through Thursday with flexibility to work remote on Fridays.

Key Responsibilities:

Commercial Portfolio Strategy

  • Own the commercial strategy for the portfolio, including pricing, margin, mix, and product positioning.
  • Evaluate portfolio performance and recommend actions to improve profitability, growth, and competitiveness.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize portfolio architecture, including SKU rationalization, cost improvement, and simplification.
  • Support strategic decisions on investments, product enhancements, and portfolio expansion or divestment opportunities.

Lifecycle Management

  • Manage the portfolio across the full product lifecycle from ideation and development through launch, growth, maturity, and phase-out.
  • Partner with R&D, marketing, operations, and supply chain to guide product development priorities and commercialization plans.
  • Support business cases for new products, enhancements, equipment, and other portfolio investments.
  • Ensure lifecycle decisions are grounded in customer needs, financial impact, and operational feasibility.

Tactical Portfolio Execution

  • Translate portfolio strategy into clear near-term actions across pricing, product changes, launches, rationalization, and cost optimization.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and market conditions to identify risks, gaps, and opportunities for action.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to execute portfolio priorities quickly and effectively in a fast-moving environment.
  • Maintain follow-through on decisions, deliverables, and timelines to ensure strong execution.

Market and Customer Insight

  • Monitor market trends, customer requirements, and competitive activity to inform portfolio decisions.
  • Act as a voice of the customer by understanding application needs, market pain points, and value drivers.
  • Support sales and marketing with product information, value propositions, and competitive insights.
  • Participate in customer discussions, industry events, and trade shows as needed.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Lead through influence across commercial, technical, and operational teams.
  • Communicate tradeoffs, recommendations, and priorities clearly to stakeholders.
  • Align functions around portfolio decisions and ensure accountability for execution.
  • Operate effectively in a dynamic, ambiguous, and fast-paced environment.
Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in product management, portfolio management, pricing, commercial strategy, commercial operations, supply chain, category management, or a related field.
  • Experience in manufacturing, packaging, distribution, plastics, chemicals, or another price-sensitive B2B environment.
  • Strong understanding of pricing, margin management, product lifecycle management, and commercial decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, identify trends, and recommend actionable portfolio decisions.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and cross-functional leadership skills.
  • Ability to influence partners without direct authority and drive execution across multiple functions.

Preferred

  • Experience in packaging, cushioning, plastics, or similar industrial products.
  • Background in portfolio strategy, supply chain optimization, pricing strategy, or commercial analytics.
  • Experience building business cases for product investments, launches, rationalization, or portfolio changes.
  • Familiarity with SAP or other ERP/PLM tools.
  • Strong Excel, PowerPoint, and financial analysis skills.

Key Competencies

  • Commercially minded and execution-focused
  • Strategic thinker with strong practical follow-through
  • Analytical and pragmatic problem solver
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Comfortable working in fast-moving, ambiguous environments
  • Collaborative, accountable, and customer-oriented
  • Able to balance long-term portfolio health with near-term business needs

What Success Looks Like

A successful Portfolio Manager will shape portfolio strategy, guide lifecycle decisions from early concept through phase-out, and drive tactical action that improves portfolio economics. This person will identify opportunities, build credible business cases, align stakeholders around priorities, and help position the Everyday Cushioning portfolio for profitable, sustainable growth.
