General Statement of Duties POOL MONITOR This position may require working a flexible schedule which may include evenings and weekends. Must be able to work other than normal hours and be available to work as scheduled based upon the needs of the department. May be required to work in outdoor elements such as sun, heat and rain.

Responsible for observing participant behaviors inside pool area and surrounding area recognizing escalating individuals and groups of individuals, evaluating and interceding as needed including calling 911 to maintain a safe environment for participants and staff. Assists pool staff with Department of Recreation rules enforcement. Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) or Private Security Training Certification preferred.

May be required to assist gate monitor with customer service, revenue collection and gate admittance procedures. Walks the pool deck and communicates effectively with pool patrons and staff. Must have current or be able to pass American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer / AED and First Aid certifications.

Assists in emergencies according to the facility emergency action plan. Must be willing to take direction from pool manager and pool supervisors. Must have excellent interpersonal skills.

Must follow Department of Recreation rules, regulations and guidelines, especially those relating to safety, customer service and finance. Attend pool monitor training session at preseason training, and on-site pool training. Must be 18 years of age or older.

Age 21 or older preferred. Must wear Department of Recreation staff wear and maintain a clean and positive demeanor and appearance. **Employee may be asked to provide assistance and/or accommodations to include participants with disabilities.

Minimum Qualifications (KSAs) Knowledge: Interpersonal Skills Public Safety and Security De-escalation Techniques CRC Emergency Action Plan Conflict Management Customer Service Skills Basic Math Skills: Write legibly Use English accurately Establish and maintain effective working relationships Provide assistance and/or accommodations to include participants with disabilities Follow oral and written instructions Make sound judgments based on logical analysis and training Ability to: Multi-Task Speak effectively on the phone and in person Explain topics to customers clearly Determine solutions with limited resources Perform duties according to the emergency action plan Use critical thinking to solve problems Required Education and Experience Must be 18 years of age or older. Previous security experience preferred. Must be able to obtain Department required CPR and First Aid Training, American Red Cross CPR/PR/AED, Bloodborne, and First Aid certifications.

Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training preferred. OTHER REQUIREMENTS Unexpired certifications must be maintained as part of employment Must wear assigned Department of Recreation staff uniform and maintain a clean appearance and positive demeanor. Must be willing to take direction from supervisors and managers.

Works on uneven and/or slippery surfaces and is periodically exposed to hazardous conditions/situations and substances.

May use training techniques (specific to and not to exceed the training level) for intervening during a physical conflict. Physical Conditions: Duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, and walking for prolonged periods of time and may require light to moderate lifting. Reaching, pulling, and carrying, manual dexterity, and audiovisual and linguistic acuity required.
