How much do polyworks programming jobs pay per year?
What is the difference between Polyworks Programming vs CAD Technician?
| Aspect | Polyworks Programming | CAD Technician |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Technical training in Polyworks, CAD software knowledge | Diploma or degree in CAD, drafting, or engineering |
| Work Environment | Manufacturing, quality control, 3D scanning environments | Design offices, engineering departments, manufacturing support |
| Industry Usage | Metrology, reverse engineering, quality assurance | Product design, drafting, technical documentation |
Polyworks Programming focuses on developing and executing 3D metrology and scanning processes using Polyworks software, often in manufacturing settings. CAD Technicians primarily create and modify technical drawings and models using CAD software. While both roles require technical skills and familiarity with design tools, Polyworks Programming emphasizes 3D data processing and quality control, whereas CAD Technicians concentrate on design documentation and drafting tasks.

The Opportunity:
- CACI is looking for a Metrologist to join the team at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Divisions (NSWCCDs) Fabrication Team In this role, you will utilize high precision measurement equipment (coordinate measurement machines (CMMs), laser tracker equipment, ultrasonic devices, calipers, verniers, electronic protractors, squares, height gauges, depth gauges, indicators, and micrometers) and perform computerized spatial analysis. Calibrate equipment then measure item geometry and spatial relationships. This includes small and large-scale items requiring dimension and tolerance analysis to determine accuracy. Shall restrain items to prevent hog and sag deformation prior to measurement. Provide Tolerance Measurement Study upon completion. Perform preventative and routine maintenance and calibration of measurement equipment as needed and issue calibration certificates.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare measurement reports per customer specifications. Determine if first article parts are acceptable.
- Implement new innovative practices to promote part accuracy, and proficiency. This may include, but is not limited to, new reporting templates or formats that better facilitate the documentation, reporting, and tracking of precision measurement activities.
- Utilize PC-DMIS as the primary metrology software (with Polyworks as a secondary tool) to inspect high-tolerance finished components designed with minimal fixturing to perform first-article inspections.
- Leverage PC-DMIS and Polyworks capabilities to advise shop management, supervisors, and planners during the planning and costing phase regarding the difficulty, complexity, and potential issues that may arise during the inspection process.
- Analyze and diagnose complex problems that arise during the inspection process. Utilize PC-DMIS, Polyworks, or Spatial Analyzer to determine the root cause of potential issues and develop robust methods and processes to ensure similar issues are reduced or eliminated in future tasks.
- Utilize PC-DMIS or Polyworks software to perform Laser Tracker measurements in strict accordance with Model Fabrication Facility policies and standard operating practices.
- Adhere to the Model Fabrication Facility policies and standard practices were applicable.
- Design specialized tooling fixtures to be used to support the production of complex machined components
- Applies knowledge of engineering disciplines in structural design, weld design materials applications and prototype design
- Skilled in the interpretation of complex engineered drawings, sketches and verbal communications.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must have significant experience writing, troubleshooting, and running PC-DMIS inspection programs.
- Experience with utilizing high precision measurement equipment (coordinate measurement machines (CMMs), laser tracker equipment, ultrasonic devices, calipers, verniers, electronic protractors, squares, height gauges, depth gauges, indicators, and micrometers) and performing computerized spatial analysis
- Knowledge of manufacturing trades including industrial and commercial manufacturing processes to contribute to the engineering design and development function
- Ability to collect and analyze data in test samples and fabrication mockups and apply the data collected to the fabrication of future high cost components and models
- Experienced in inspecting and dimensionally verifying components and models to ensure compliance with dimension specified in drawings, specifications and control documents.
- Experience with generating and delivering measurement reports per customer specifications
- Thorough understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerance practices, including NIST.
- Ability to read and work from highly detailed drawings and specifications.
- Desire to learn, ask questions, and take initiative within safety and skills limitations.
Physical:
- Office, industrial and construction settings; the work requires the employee to spend most of the day standing, kneeling, or sitting in awkward positions. S/he will lift weights up to 80 lbs. S/he will work from ladders and scaffolds, also trenches, and hard to reach places by bending, stretching, and stooping
Working Conditions:
- You will frequently work inside and outside of buildings. S/he will work in cold weather. S/he may be working in the hot sun. S/he will work in environments where ventilation or respirators may be necessary. S/he must be safety minded about themselves and others. S/he will check tools and equipment, and see their capacities are not exceeded; and that tools are kept in a safe working condition.
- Physical: (1) Lift up to 80 lbs. (2) Work in Industrial and Test Facility Environment including cranes, fork trucks and vehicle operations.
- Hazardous Duty: Perform work in industrial settings where the potential for hazards exists. However, the use of engineering controls, materials substitution and personal protective equipment reduce or eliminate hazard exposure. Incumbent is regularly exposed to the hazard of: noise, electrical shock, wet surfaces, and climbing. The contractor will occasionally use hazardous materials e.g. various oils and solvents. The contractor is occasionally exposed to high work and confined space.
Desired:
- Possess a working knowledge of machining and sheet metal processes.
- Familiarity with NAVSEA, Navy, or other military standards for fabrication
