DESCRIPTION

\r\n\r\nTHE AGENCY\r\n\r\nZone 7 Water Agency\r\nis located in the Tri-Valley region of the eastern San Francisco Bay Area. It\r\nprovides water on a wholesale basis to the cities of Pleasanton, Livermore,\r\nDublin and the Dougherty Valley area of San Ramon, and flood-protection\r\nservices to all of eastern Alameda County. Zone 7 employs approximately 116\r\nfull-time employees and operates on an annual budget of $80.3 million dollars.\r\nThe Agency's administrative offices are located in Livermore, CA, the\r\neasternmost city of Alameda County, which is bordered by Contra Costa County to\r\nthe north and San Joaquin County to the east. This class receives direction and assignments from the Lead Plant Mechanic, Zone 7, while the direct supervisor is the Facilities Maintenance and Construction Supervisor. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

TO\r\nQUALIFY FOR THE COMPETITIVE ASSESSMENT PROCESS, YOU MUST MEET THE MINIMUM\r\nREQUIREMENTS LISTED BELOW.\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience: The equivalent of two years of full-time experience in skilled mechanical maintenance repair work in a water or wastewater treatment or industrial setting. Completion of an apprenticeship in a related field, such as machinist, electrician or electronics technician, may be substituted for not more than one year of the required experience. \r\n\r\nLicense: Possession of a valid California Driver's license. \r\n\r\nNOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.\r\n\r\n

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

The\r\nmost suitably qualified candidates will possess the following competencies:\r\n\r\nKnowledge of:\r\n Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in water treatment plant and field distribution system maintenance and repair work, including plumbing, electrical and related building trades work. \r\n Shop math. \r\n Safe work methods and safety precautions related to the work. \r\n Metal fabrication, including welding, brazing and soldering. \r\n Principles of lead supervision. \r\n\r\nAbility to:\r\n Install, diagnose, repair and maintain a wide variety of mechanical equipment used in water treatment and distribution work. \r\n Plan and complete work assignments independently. \r\n Operate and maintain a wide variety of hand, power and shop tools and equipment used in the work. \r\n Observe safe work methods and safety precautions related to the work. \r\n Read and interpret plans, specifications, manuals and schematics. \r\n Estimate materials, tools and equipment required to perform assignments efficiently. \r\n Follow written and oral instructions. \r\n Direct the work of others as assigned. \r\n Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work. \r\n\r\nOther Requirements:\r\nMust be willing to work in exposure to potentially hazardous materials, in confined spaces, and outdoors in all weather conditions. Must possess strength sufficient to perform work assignments. Must be willing to respond to emergencies in off-hours as required.\r\n\r\n

EXAMINATION COMPONENTS

THE EXAMINATION WILL\r\nCONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n A review of\r\n applicants' application to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum\r\n requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination\r\n process.\r\n A review of the\r\n supplemental questionnaire to determine the best qualified that will be\r\n weighted as qualifying only (pass/fail). Candidates who pass the best qualified\r\n exam component will move on to the final step in the examination process.\r\n An oral examination\r\n which will be weighted as 100% of the candidates' final examination score.
