Job description

 Job Summary                                                                                                                                                                                   

The Landscape Supervisor / Planting Crew Manager will be responsible for delivering and installing plants and trees in residential and commercial locations. The position works as a member of the planting crew, planning the installation process, directing activities of the crew, interacting with the customer to ensure a great customer experience, ensuring compliance with all human resources and safety processes, and ensuring that all installations are completed in accordance with company guidelines. The LF is responsible for ensuring the proper, efficient, and timely completion of projects, and must be able to operate a variety of equipment and develop a working knowledge of landscaping & horticultural practices.  The LF must be able to maintain safety standards, meet overtime/staffing quotas, enhance customer satisfaction, meet sales goals, and manage planting projects effectively. This position directly supervises 1 Lead Operator and 3-4 Planting Crew members and the truck assets and planting projects.

 Key Duties and Responsibilities                                                                                                                                           
  • Safely and efficiently drive a flatbed truck (non-CDL) with inventory, equipment, tools, and members of the planting and installation crew.
  • Manage customer deliveries-and-plant (DNP) installation operations.
  • Ensure that each customer receives outstanding service by providing safe, clean, and friendly DNP visit to customers, while maintaining solid product knowledge and an outstanding customer experience
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures through crew management, training opportunities and coaching.
  • Train and develop members of the planting crew in all aspects of the installation and the customer visit by directing and monitoring the work and identifying additional training and development opportunities.
  • Provide regular feedback to crew members regarding performance and conduct performance reviews in accordance with the company’s evaluation cycle.
  • Ensure that crews conduct work in a professional, ethical, safe, and effective manner.
  • Review and implement installation work orders, maximizing effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Attain productivity and performance goals by training, motivating, mentoring, and providing feedback to colleagues and crew members.
  • Ensure the protection, maintenance, and proper use of company trucks, inventory, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain company standards for outstanding truck cleanliness and condition.
  • Address or escalate issues that arise from crews or customers (e.g., complaints, grievances, etc.)
  • Exhibit high standards of performance and professionalism at all times, and particularly with respect to customer service.
  • Conduct or facilitate crew safety training including, for example, heat safety, safe vehicle operation, equipment uses, ergonomics, etc.
  • Maintain adequate stock of necessary supplies and materials in the company truck.
  • Assist with logistics or customer service issues that arise.
  • Offer customers with onsite opportunities to purchase warranties or additional plants and services.
  • Assist with any administrative issues arising from customer sales, transactions, credit card charges, payments, customer “change orders,” product exceptions, warranty sales, crew member time and attendance, etc.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned and as needed.
Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities                                                                                                                  
  • Ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience as a crew chief, foreman, manager, etc.
  • Experience in a retail, nursery, landscaping, or related environment preferred.
  • Ability to support and coach team members to accomplish business goals.
  • Demonstrated basic understanding of human resources and sales fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated understanding of plants, planting, project management, landscaping, and customer service
  • Strong customer relation and interpersonal skills
  • Clear and effective communication and documentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to self-direct and self-motivate to pursue business goals.
  • Ability to work independently to complete specific tasks and meet inflexible deadlines.
  • Aptitude in decision-making and problem solving.
  • Ability to collaborate with others.
  • Basic proficiency in using computer software applications and basic technology, such as GPS and POS systems.
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands, attention to detail in written work product, and ability to follow through on tasks and goals.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple projects and activities.
  • Mandatory insurability with company’s insurers based on possession of a valid driver’s license, excellent record, applicable drug, and health screening,)
  • DOT certification of fitness (CDL not required)
  • Working knowledge of local plant communities, a plus

High school diploma or equivalent preferred

 Physical requirements/Working Conditions                                                                                                                 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 15 pounds. Able to work outdoors for extended periods of time in possibly extreme conditions, including rain, heat, sun, and wind.
