Plant Vehicle Team Engineer - Electrical Systems
Overview / Summary
The Plant Vehicle Team (PVT) Engineer is a member of the Product Development Team co-located at the Chicago Assembly Plant along with the operations team. This role serves as a first line of defense for quality on the Explorer and Aviator vehicle lines. The engineer is responsible for supporting the complete electrical system of the vehicle, including module software and the electrical distribution system, and leading resolution of design and quality issues through root cause identification and coordination with the appropriate skill teams. This position is fully onsite.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a first line of defense for quality issues on vehicle lines
  • Support the complete electrical system of the vehicle, including module software and the electrical distribution system
  • Lead resolution of design and quality issues by properly defining concerns and determining initial root cause
  • Coordinate with the appropriate skill teams after root cause is identified to ensure containment actions are taken to protect customers
  • Support daily warranty claim binning, triage incoming claims, and prioritize containment actions based on claim count and priority ranking
  • Support management of the change process for engineering issues, including coordinating plant trials, leading sign-off processes, and ensuring plant readiness for design changes
  • Support error-proofing systems and identify resolutions for both internal and external issues
  • Attend VRT sub-system meetings and work with supporting skill teams to resolve quality and design issues
  • Review internal end-of-line electrical issues, triage DTCs, and develop workplans for resolution
  • Leverage quality systems to identify customer issues based on DTC information
  • Lead design resolution of low voltage EDS issues
  • Review pre-production vehicles for potential campaign items and assess warranty impact
  • Participate in vehicle builds and lead issue resolution using AIMS/JIRA
  • Develop a roadmap to eliminate high-hurt internal and external issues
  • Develop business cases for engineering changes using facts and applicable data
  • Lead engineering changes from initial concept through production launch
