Position Summary Information
Primary Purpose
The athletic program at Appalachian State University operates on the premise that intercollegiate athletics is an integral part of the institution's overall program of education. This position will represent the athletics director in various capacities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of pitcher development
  • Must be able to scout opposing teams and develop a report for the Head Coach.
  • Strong leadership abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be willing to be actively involved in the Appalachian State and Boone community.
  • Must have knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations as they apply to recruitment and player eligibility.

License/Certification Required Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of full-time experience leading a pitching unit
  • 2+ years of proven experience in developing pitchers
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and recruit at the highest level

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Appalachian State University is seeking an Assistant Softball Coach to support a competitive NCAA Division I softball program committed to academic integrity, competitive excellence, social responsibility, and a world-class student-athlete experience. This position assists the head coach in all aspects of the program, including recruiting and retaining high-caliber student-athletes, on-field instruction and player development, and mentoring student-athletes to succeed academically, athletically, and personally.

Primary responsibility is to serve as the pitching coach.

Other responsibilities include assisting the head coach in all aspects of a Division I softball program including, but not limited to:

  • All aspects related to on and off campus recruiting
  • Assisting recruiting coordinator in recruiting-related activities
  • Community service planning and engagement
  • Point of contact with SAAC and team SAAC representatives
  • Other duties as assigned by the head coach
