Position Summary
The HVAC Service Pipefitter/Welder is responsible for the installation, fabrication, assembly, modification, repair, and maintenance of commercial and industrial HVAC piping systems. This role performs pipefitting, welding, brazing, soldering, and mechanical service work on chilled water, hot water, condenser water, steam, condensate, refrigerant, gas, and process piping systems. The technician works independently and with service teams to safely diagnose issues, execute repairs, and deliver high-quality workmanship that exceeds customer expectations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Pipefitting and Fabrication
โ€ข Install, fabricate, assemble, modify, and repair commercial HVAC piping systems.
โ€ข Install chilled water, hot water, steam, condensate, refrigerant, gas, condenser water, and process piping systems.
โ€ข Fabricate and assemble piping using carbon steel, copper, stainless steel, PVC, and CPVC.
โ€ข Cut, thread, groove, braze, solder, weld, and assemble pipe and fittings.
โ€ข Install pipe supports, hangers, anchors, vibration isolation, valves, strainers, pumps, coils, and related equipment.
โ€ข Verify measurements, elevations, slopes, clearances, and layout requirements.
Service and Repair
โ€ข Diagnose piping failures, leaks, equipment issues, and system deficiencies.
โ€ข Perform piping repairs, modifications, tie-ins, shutdowns, and equipment replacements.
โ€ข Replace valves, fittings, and damaged pipe sections.
โ€ข Troubleshoot flow, pressure, temperature, and system performance issues.
โ€ข Support HVAC service technicians during major repairs and equipment replacements.
Testing and Commissioning
โ€ข Perform hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure testing.
โ€ข Inspect work for leaks, alignment, support, and code compliance.
โ€ข Assist with flushing, cleaning, startup, and commissioning activities.
โ€ข Verify system operation after repairs and modifications.
Safety and Compliance
โ€ข Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and customer safety procedures.
โ€ข Complete Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and participate in safety meetings.
โ€ข Properly maintain tools, welding equipment, and company vehicles.
โ€ข Ensure all work meets applicable codes, specifications, manufacturer requirements, and company quality standards.
Customer Service and Documentation
โ€ข Communicate professionally with customers, project managers, foremen, and team members.
โ€ข Complete service reports, time sheets, and material usage records accurately.
โ€ข Assist with estimating repair work and identifying additional service opportunities.
โ€ข Represent the company in a professional manner at all times.

Requirements
Required Qualifications
โ€ข High school diploma or GED preferred. โ€ข 3-5+ years of commercial or industrial HVAC/mechanical pipefitting experience. โ€ข Strong knowledge of HVAC piping systems, materials, and installation practices. โ€ข Ability to read and interpret blueprints, isometrics, schematics, and specifications. โ€ข Experience with brazing, soldering, threading, grooving, and welding. โ€ข Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. โ€ข Ability to pass applicable welding tests and certifications required by the company.
Preferred Qualifications
โ€ข Trade school or apprenticeship completion. โ€ข OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. โ€ข AWS, ASME, or equivalent welding certifications. โ€ข Experience in commercial and industrial HVAC projects. โ€ข Steam system and refrigerant piping experience.
