Job description

Position Summary

M3 Engineering & Technology is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer with industrial piping design experience to join our multidisciplinary engineering team. This position is responsible for the design, analysis, specification, and procurement of industrial piping systems for process and heavy industrial facilities. The successful candidate will work closely with process, mechanical, structural, civil, electrical, and instrumentation engineers to develop safe, reliable, and cost-effective piping systems from concept through construction and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop industrial process and utility piping systems for heavy industrial facilities.
  • Perform engineering calculations for pipe sizing, pressure drop, wall thickness, and piping flexibility as required.
  • Develop piping layouts, routing studies, isometric drawings, and piping support designs.
  • Prepare piping material specifications, valve specifications, line lists, and piping design documentation.
  • Coordinate piping layouts with mechanical equipment, structural steel, civil works, electrical systems, and instrumentation.
  • Develop and review piping specifications in accordance with applicable industry codes and client requirements.
  • Review vendor drawings and ensure proper integration with project designs.
  • Assist with equipment and piping material procurement, technical bid evaluations, and vendor coordination.
  • Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, HAZOPs, and interdisciplinary coordination meetings.
  • Support construction, field inspections, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable industry codes, standards, and company quality requirements.
  • Serve as Project Manager on small engineering projects, coordinating scope, schedule, budget, client communication, and project deliverables.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial piping engineering.
  • Experience designing piping systems for industrial, manufacturing, or process facilities.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and 3D design software such as Plant 3D, CADWorx, Revit, Inventor, or similar.
  • Experience preparing piping layouts, isometric drawings, and piping support details.
  • Working knowledge of piping materials, valves, fittings, and applicable industry codes and standards (ASME B31.1, B31.3, B16, etc.).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Valid passport or the ability to obtain one.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience coordinating or reviewing piping stress analysis.
  • Experience serving as a discipline lead on multidisciplinary engineering projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage small engineering projects, including scope, schedule, budget, and client communications.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is a plus.
