Job description

Role Summary:

The Director of Regulatory Compliance is a key strategic member of Pinterest's Legal & Compliance team leading and strengthening our enterprise regulatory compliance program. This role leads a high-functioning team of compliance specialists responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing compliance programs related to major platform regulations, including the EU Digital Services Act (DSA), the UK Online Safety Act (OSA), and other emerging global online platform regulatory frameworks. The Regulatory Compliance team is responsible for assessing our compliance risk, driving our audits and risk assessments, documenting and maintaining our control library, and partnering across the business to promote a culture of accountability and integrity.  

This leader will own Pinterest's compliance readiness and execution for regulatory audit, risk assessment, transparency, governance, and assurance obligations. The role requires deep expertise in technology/platform regulation, operational compliance, cross-functional program leadership, and risk governance. The Director will work closely with Legal, Product, Trust & Safety, Public Policy, Internal Audit, Engineering, Data Science, Privacy, Security, and executive stakeholders to ensure regulatory obligations are translated into practical, scalable, and defensible compliance programs.This role reports to Sr. Director & AGC, Privacy, Regulatory & Risk. 

What you'll do:

  • Lead Pinterest's regulatory compliance program, strengthening and evolving a durable governance framework, policies, controls, monitoring, reporting, and trainings; 
  • Using an innovative technology mindset, you will design, develop and operationalize a regulatory compliance program that is AI-forward to accelerate maturity, efficiency and scale. 
  • Develop and maintain a master control library and requirements library for existing and new regulatory compliance;
  • Build and oversee ongoing post-implementation compliance, including monitoring controls and organizing other assurance work;
  • Audit compliance implementation and verify ongoing compliance with approved implementation plans;
  • Evaluate audit reports, identify potential compliance gaps, and recommend remediation/mitigation strategies where necessary; 
  • Work closely with Legal SMEs to evaluate enhanced compliance proposals; 
  • Partner with internal and external auditors to evaluate our compliance measures;
  • Lead required ad hoc and annual risk assessments and audits, including for the EU Digital Services Act (DSA) and UK Online Safety Act (OSA);
  • Advise leadership and cross-functional stakeholders on regulatory obligations and compliance risks; 
  • Support Regulatory Legal on regulatory inquiries and investigations; 
  • Promote a strong culture of accountability and proactive risk management across Pinterest;
  • Manage and develop a team of compliance professionals, consultants, and outside counsel.

What we're looking for:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in compliance, legal, risk, audit, or related functions, with significant experience in regulated environments (such as technology, digital platforms, financial services, or healthcare), with in-house legal experience preferred;
  • Minimum of 5 years of people leadership experience, including managing and mentoring a team, setting clear priorities and expectations, and supporting team growth;
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance frameworks and control environments; 
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret complex legal and regulatory requirements and operationalize them effectively; 
  • Strong experience working cross-functionally across Legal, Internal Audit and Business functions; 
  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders, drive cross-functional alignment, and manage stakeholders; 
  • Thought leadership and sound judgment, with an ability to clearly communicate our compliance posture both internally and externally; 
  • Detail-oriented, comfort managing ambiguity, and ability to pivot quickly amidst multiple priorities in an ever-evolving fast-paced environment; 
  • Experience building or scaling and maturing compliance programs in a global organization; 
  • Proficient in conducting risk assessments, control testing, remediation management, and compliance reporting; 
  • Demonstrated ability to use AI to streamline, scale and evolve the regulatory compliance program; 
  • Experience with regulations on content moderation, online safety, and/or privacy strongly preferred
  • J.D. from an accredited law school, or equivalent experience.
