How much do pilot 700 hours jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 8, 2026, the average yearly pay for pilot 700 hours in the United States is $130,916.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $100,000.00 and $155,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What does it mean to be a pilot with 700 hours?

A Pilot with 700 hours refers to an individual who has accumulated 700 hours of flight time as a pilot in command or as a co-pilot. This level of experience is significant, as many regional airlines and employers require a minimum number of flight hours for employment, often in the range of 500 to 1,500 hours. Having 700 hours means the pilot has gained a solid foundation in flying skills, decision-making, and aircraft operations, and may be eligible for more advanced or commercial flying opportunities. It demonstrates commitment to aviation and often satisfies certain regulatory or insurance requirements.

What types of career advancement opportunities are available for pilots with around 700 hours of flight experience?

Pilots with approximately 700 hours of flight time are often at a pivotal stage in their aviation careers. While they may not yet meet the minimum hour requirements for major airlines, many regional carriers, charter companies, and flight schools offer positions that can help build additional experience. Typical roles include first officer positions with regional airlines or turboprop operators, aerial survey work, and instructing if you hold a CFI certificate. These positions provide valuable multi-engine and turbine time, and offer opportunities to build leadership and decision-making skills, setting a strong foundation for advancement to larger carriers or specialized aviation roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a pilot with 700 hours of flight experience, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Pilot with 700 hours, you need an FAA Commercial Pilot License, strong aeronautical knowledge, and solid flight experience, often including instrument and multi-engine ratings. Proficiency using avionics systems, flight management computers, and navigation tools is essential, and some employers may require experience with specific aircraft types or simulator training. Exceptional situational awareness, decision-making, and communication skills set top pilots apart, especially when working as part of a flight crew. These skills and qualifications are crucial for ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and effective teamwork in complex and dynamic flying environments.

What is the difference between Pilot 700 Hours vs Flight Instructor?

While both roles require a Private Pilot License, a Pilot with 700 hours is often seeking commercial opportunities, whereas a Flight Instructor focuses on training others and typically has additional certifications. The main difference lies in their work focus and certification requirements, with Flight Instructors playing a key role in pilot development.
