Job description

The Guest Services Representative at Cannery Pier Hotel & Spa is a key member of our luxury 46-room boutique hotel team located in Astoria, Oregon. This role involves representing the hotel throughout all stages of the guest's stay, providing exceptional customer service, making reservations, responding to communications, and offering concierge services. A thorough knowledge of Astoria’s local attractions, restaurants, and bars is essential to assist guests effectively.

Responsibilities
  • Answer phones using sales methods and provide customer service at the level required by the hotel.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Display excellent communication skills including presentations, proper telephone etiquette, negotiation skills, and the ability to remain calm and courteous under pressure.
  • Represent the hotel professionally, adhering to the uniform, dress code, and grooming standards.
  • Maintain a welcoming and personable style with guests, anticipate their needs, ensure satisfaction, and address service errors promptly.
  • Take direction respectfully from supervisors.
  • Perform well on company shopping programs and use suggestive selling techniques to up-sell hotel rooms and packages.
  • Adhere to punctuality and attendance guidelines.
  • Comply with all safety policies, emergency procedures, and report unsafe activities to supervisors.
  • Follow all guest service procedures including check-in, reservations, check out, special requests, per-registration, and key control.
  • Adhere to hotel credit policies including credit card authorization, cash payments, advance deposits, etc.
  • Coordinate room status with housekeeping for late checkouts, early check-ins, extended stays, and special requests.
  • Follow procedures for handling mail, packages, and lost and found items.
  • Post outlet charges accurately and balance end-of-shift work and cash drawer.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Must satisfactorily pass a background check.
  • This is a part-time position, with the potential for full-time based on hotel seasonality.
  • Flexible shifts available: AM (7am-3pm), Mid (11am-7pm), Close (3pm-11pm), with Close shift requiring one overnight shift per month for cross-training.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED, or six months to one year related experience/training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to lift 40 – 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
  • Effective English communication skills, both verbal and written, with clear speech to individuals and groups.
  • Basic mathematical skills including addition and subtraction.
  • Advanced basic computer skills including system logins, email communication, document composition, and database entry.
  • Strong reasoning ability to apply instructions, solve problems, and demonstrate interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and decision-making.
