Job description

Under the direct supervision of a respiratory therapist, assists in the administration of prescribed doses of medical gases and the set-up and administration of therapeutic treatment and aerosolized drugs to patients. Uses oxygen mixtures in conjunction with therapeutic respiratory therapy equipment.
Responsibilities:
• Assists in the administration of prescribed doses of medical gases and the set-up and administration of therapeutic treatment and aerosolized drugs to patients.
• Uses oxygen mixtures in conjunction with therapeutic respiratory therapy equipment.
• Assists with patient care rounds per policy.
• Provides and monitors routine oxygen therapy, non-critical patient transports and patient education, as needed.
• Treats patients using a variety of methods including chest physiotherapy, aerosol medications, and non-invasive methods such as CPAP and BIPAP therapies.
• Monitors and records the progress of treatment.
• Teaches patients how to use treatments.
• Operates, calibrates, processes, and maintains respiratory equipment.
• Cleans, reassembles, and performance tests various pieces of patient care equipment.
• Restocks respiratory supplies and cylinders.
• Actively pursues education and training necessary to become a respiratory therapist.
• Performs other related duties as required and directed.
Required:
• High school graduate or GED equivalent.
• Currently enrolled, with successful completion of three semesters, and in good standing with a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) approved respiratory care program.
• BLS certification.
