Job description

The Portsmouth School Department offers numerous internship opportunities to give your education career the best start!
Description of PHS PE Intern:
This intern  will spend a total of at least 60-hours on-site observing, assisting, and teaching during high school
physical education classes over the course of the semester. Each week interns are
required to spend at least 6-hours on-site during which they will complete targeted, sequential socializing
tasks related to various seminar topics and effective teaching. Students will track the days/times/classes
they spend onsite and obtain the signature of their cooperating teacher. 
Interns will collaborate with their cooperating teacher to develop a useful skill performance assessment
for implementation during actual instruction. The assessment will be directly related to student learning
outcome(s) and include multiple criteria related to the performance of a skill.
Interns will work with their cooperating teacher to identify an appropriate, full class period lesson to teach
during a pre-approved time. Interns will design a 5-lesson unit plan of appropriate instruction around the full class
period lesson they will teach.

Internship is considered to be the single most important experience in a teacher preparation program.   By working together, we hope to nurture the professional growth of education career seeking interns, support the continued professional development of cooperating faculty, provide for quality learning experiences for the children in our school, and strengthen our partnerships with higher education institutions.
