The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) practices in collaboration with and under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist, while exercising clinical judgment and autonomy appropriate to the role.**Job Description**## Job Duties* Provide patient care as directed within the medical direction model, including obtaining medical histories, performing physical examinations, ordering medications, and administering drugs* Assess, diagnose, and treat medical or surgical conditions; document findings accurately* Perform, order, assist with, and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests* Perform therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, and wound care* Educate and counsel patients regarding health, disease management, and treatment plans* Respond to emergency medical situations and initiate appropriate interventions* Collaborate with physicians and healthcare team members to coordinate patient care* Assist with ordering medications, maintaining records, and ensuring proper equipment function* Follow Mercy safety policies and report unsafe conditions or incidents## ## Department-Specific Duties (Medical Direction Model)* Administer anesthesia under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist* Perform pre-anesthesia evaluations and develop anesthesia care plans in collaboration with the anesthesiologist* Provide intra-procedural anesthesia management and monitoring* Participate in post-anesthesia care and patient recovery* Communicate effectively with the anesthesia care team to ensure compliance with medical direction requirements* Document all anesthesia care accurately in the EMR* Adhere to regulatory, hospital, and anesthesia department policies* Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives## ## Knowledge, Skills & Abilities* Excellent written and verbal communication skills required## Professional Experience* 1–3 years of experience preferred## Education* Education sufficient to meet licensure requirements## Licensure, Certification, Registration* Active license to practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in the state of Iowa required* Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse and Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required prior to start or transfer date* ACLS required within 6 months of start date**Pay Rate Type**Salary***Mercy is an independent, community-based organization supporting the Cedar Rapids area for over 120 years.***Mercy is an equal-opportunity employer.
