What is a phone agent?

Phone agents are professionals who handle inbound or outbound calls on behalf of a company or organization. Their main responsibilities include assisting customers, answering questions, resolving issues, and sometimes making sales or conducting surveys over the phone. Phone agents are often employed in call centers or customer service departments and require strong communication, problem-solving, and listening skills to provide effective support.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a phone agent, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Phone Agent, you need strong verbal communication skills, active listening abilities, and typically a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software and multi-line phone systems is commonly required. Patience, problem-solving, and a positive attitude help phone agents effectively handle customer inquiries and resolve issues. These skills ensure efficient service delivery, customer satisfaction, and contribute to a positive company reputation.

What are some common challenges phone agents face when handling high call volumes, and how can they effectively manage stress during busy periods?

Phone agents often encounter high call volumes, especially during peak hours or promotional periods, which can lead to increased stress and fatigue. To manage these challenges, agents typically rely on time management techniques, prioritize calls efficiently, and use call-handling scripts to maintain professionalism. Many teams encourage regular short breaks, provide access to supportive supervisors, and offer training on stress-reduction strategies. Building resilience and staying organized can help agents maintain a positive attitude and deliver excellent customer service even during the busiest times.

What is the difference between Phone Agent vs Customer Service Representative?

Work EnvironmentCall centers, remote or office settingsCall centers, retail, or office settings
Industry UsageTelecommunications, sales, supportRetail, banking, tech support
Search IntentJob roles focused on phone communicationCustomer support via phone, email, or chat

While both roles involve communication with customers, a Phone Agent primarily handles inbound or outbound calls in call centers, often focusing on sales or support. Customer Service Representatives may also communicate via multiple channels but often have broader responsibilities across various customer interaction points. The roles overlap significantly, but Phone Agents are more specialized in phone-based interactions.

Can I work in a call center without experience?

Phone agent positions in call centers often do not require prior experience, as training is typically provided on the job. Basic communication skills and a customer-focused attitude are usually sufficient to start, though some roles may prefer or require familiarity with call center software or specific industry knowledge.

Job description

Inside Sales Agent / Junior Acquisitions Agent — Real Estate

Rapid Close SoCal
Location: Southern California — Local candidates only
Job Type: Full-Time
Industry: Residential Real Estate / Real Estate Investing
License: Active California Real Estate License Required
Compensation: Base Salary + Performance Bonuses + Commission Opportunities
Earning Potential: Six-Figure Upside

The Opportunity

Rapid Close SoCal is growing quickly, and we're looking for a licensed California Realtor who is exceptional on the phone, competitive, hungry, and ready to build a career in real estate sales.

We help homeowners sell on their terms through cash offers, creative solutions, and traditional listings. Rather than forcing every homeowner into the same solution, our team listens to what's happening, identifies what the seller actually needs, and determines the best path forward.

We invest heavily in generating inbound homeowner leads throughout Southern California. These aren't random cold-call lists. These are homeowners who have raised their hands and contacted us because they're considering selling their property.

We're looking for someone who can take those opportunities and turn conversations into qualified, kept appointments for our acquisitions and listing team.

This is a hybrid role between an Inside Sales Agent, Lead Manager, and Junior Acquisitions Agent — with a clear path toward becoming a full Acquisitions Agent or Listing Agent as you develop.

What You'll Do

Your primary responsibility is simple:

Talk to homeowners, understand their situation, build trust, and get the right sellers to meet with our team.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Responding to new inbound seller leads within minutes
  • Calling, texting, and communicating with homeowners throughout Southern California
  • Having real conversations — not simply reading from a script
  • Asking intelligent questions about the property, motivation, timeline, condition, mortgage situation, and seller's goals
  • Understanding enough about real estate to recognize the homeowner's problem and explain how our team may be able to help
  • Handling objections and creating enough value for qualified homeowners to meet with us
  • Setting qualified in-person seller appointments for our acquisitions and listing team
  • Maintaining aggressive, professional follow-up with homeowners who aren't ready today
  • Re-engaging older leads that previously went cold
  • Managing your pipeline and follow-up inside our CRM
  • Reviewing incoming text-message and digital leads and converting them into conversations
  • Working directly with our acquisitions team on active opportunities
  • Participating in sales training, call reviews, role-playing, and coaching
  • When appropriate, accompanying our team on seller appointments to learn the acquisition and listing process firsthand

You aren't expected to know everything on Day 1.

You are expected to learn quickly, ask great questions, take coaching, and become extremely good at converting seller conversations into appointments.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone with a salesperson's mentality, not someone simply looking for another real estate job.

You should be someone who hears:

"I'm just exploring my options."

...and sees an opportunity to have a deeper conversation rather than ending the call.

The right person is naturally curious, confident without being pushy, comfortable discussing money and real estate, and willing to professionally challenge a homeowner when appropriate.

You should enjoy the psychology of sales: discovering motivation, asking follow-up questions, handling objections, building trust, and moving people toward a decision.

Required

  • Active California Real Estate License
  • Located in Southern California
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Strong phone-sales ability
  • Comfortable handling objections
  • Ability to build rapport quickly
  • Organized and disciplined with follow-up
  • Comfortable working inside a CRM
  • Highly coachable
  • Competitive and performance-driven
  • Available full-time and committed to the role

Strongly Preferred

Experience in one or more of the following is a major plus:

  • Real estate inside sales / ISA
  • Residential real estate sales
  • Real estate acquisitions
  • Real estate investing
  • Wholesaling
  • Seller lead conversion
  • Motivated seller leads
  • Expired or FSBO prospecting
  • High-ticket phone sales
  • Lead management
  • GoHighLevel or similar CRM systems

Real estate experience matters, but sales ability matters even more.

We'd rather develop someone with exceptional sales instincts, work ethic, and coachability than hire someone with years of real estate experience who isn't comfortable asking for the appointment.

These Are Inbound Opportunities

An important distinction:

We invest heavily in marketing to generate homeowner opportunities.

You'll work with sellers coming through our marketing channels as well as an existing database of homeowners who have already expressed interest in selling.

That means your job isn't simply to make hundreds of meaningless cold calls.

Your job is to maximize every opportunity the company generates.

When a seller calls or submits their information, we want someone answering the phone who understands that conversation could eventually represent a six-figure transaction — and treats it accordingly.

Career Growth

This position is intentionally designed as a stepping stone into a larger sales role.

You'll work closely with experienced real estate professionals and learn how we evaluate properties, structure offers, negotiate with sellers, present multiple selling options, and convert opportunities into transactions.

As you demonstrate your ability, there is an opportunity to progress into:

Junior Acquisitions → Acquisitions Agent → Listing Agent / Senior Sales Role

You'll also have opportunities to accompany our team on seller appointments so you can learn what happens after the appointment you set.

We're looking for someone who eventually wants to sit across the kitchen table from homeowners and close transactions themselves.

Compensation

Compensation is structured around base pay + performance.

The package will include:

  • Base compensation
  • Performance bonuses for qualified appointments
  • Bonuses tied to appointments that are actually kept
  • Additional compensation tied to successfully closed transactions
  • Future commission opportunities as responsibilities expand
  • Six-figure earning potential for a top performer who grows into the role

We want incentives aligned with outcomes.

You're not being paid simply to make calls. You're being rewarded for helping create real appointments and real transactions.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first several months, you should become someone our team trusts to take an inbound homeowner conversation and own it.

A seller says they're "just looking."

You dig deeper.

A homeowner says they already talked to another investor.

You find out why they haven't accepted their offer.

Someone says they aren't ready for an appointment.

You understand what's holding them back.

And when someone genuinely isn't ready today, you follow up consistently enough that Rapid Close is the company they remember when they are ready.

That's the job.

About Rapid Close SoCal

Rapid Close SoCal helps Southern California homeowners who want alternatives to the traditional home-selling process.

Depending on the homeowner's goals and circumstances, we may be able to provide a cash purchase, creative/customized selling solution, or traditional listing strategy.

Our goal is to understand the homeowner first and then recommend the solution that makes the most sense for their situation.

We're building a high-performance sales organization around that philosophy and investing aggressively in marketing, technology, systems, and people to continue growing.

This Is Not a Dialer Job

This is not a dialer job.

We aren't looking for someone to sit behind a computer, make superficial calls, and check boxes.

We want someone who wants to become dangerously good at seller conversations.

Someone who wants coaching.

Someone who wants responsibility.

Someone who wants their income tied to their performance.

And someone who eventually wants to become a top acquisitions or listing agent inside a high-performance real estate company.

If that's what you're looking for, we want to hear from you.

How to Apply

Please submit:

1. Your resume

2. Your active California real estate license information

3. A short 2–3 minute video introducing yourself and answering:

  • Why are you interested in this position?
  • What makes you effective on the phone?
  • Tell us about a difficult sale or objection you've overcome.
  • Where do you want your real estate career to be in the next 2–3 years?
  • Why should we choose you over the other applicants?

Applications without the short video may not be considered.
