Description
**This position is contingent upon award of contract/contract requirements.**
ALEX - Alternative Experts is seeking a full-time onsite PhD Data Scientist who will play a significant role on a team in adapting advanced AI/ML tools to discover training trends and create courses of action to resolve or reinforce these trends throughout the service enterprise. The Data Scientist, mentored by ALEX's Chief Data Scientist, will serve in a collaborative role with the military client's Operations Research and System Analysis (ORSA) team, the assigned ALEX Performance Management (PfM) Analysts, and the assigned military Database Managers. The assigned Data Scientist will coordinate and facilitate the planning, development, testing, and deployment of readiness-related predictive analytic models and associated deliverables required by the ALEX military client.
This is an on-site M-F position in a modern office environment in Quantico, VA. Travel requirements will be limited, mostly being very local on the military base or in the National Capitol Region.
Requirements
The on-site team, including the assigned Data Scientist will execute five (5) tasks related to service training performance management (1) gather and mine data, (2) analyze data, (3) identify corrective actions, (4) provide feedback (to stakeholders), and (5) use innovative, thorough data science-supported analysis of enterprise-wide data sets. The Data Scientist will be the core team member to guide pipeline design and implementation, recommend optimal military databases, and facilitate access to models and tools to drive impactful analytic results. More specifically the following skills and experience are required.
  • Experience in statistical computing languages, such as Python, R and others (SQL, MATLAB, SAS).
  • Advanced programming skills in these computing languages and proficient in the following:
    • Expert in statistical concepts (hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and probability distributions, etc.
    • Proficient with supervised and unsupervised ML algorithms, including decision trees, neural networks, and clustering techniques.
    • Technical skills to extract, manipulate, and manage large datasets from various databases.
    • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Capable of interpreting results and translating data insights into actionable recommendations used in building strategies and decision-making.
    • Proficient in working with the Agi for software development as it is aligned against the customer's requirements.
  • Must be able to be onsite within 30 days from award.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
  • Prior military experience is preferred.

Education and Certifications:
  • PhD or recently graduated or soon to be graduated (2025) PhD student with a Data Science focus and/or a background in Natural Language Processing or closely related field.
  • Active Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship Required without a work authorization, sponsorship or visa (F1, OPT, CPT or other).
