Job description

The group you'll be a part of
In the Global Products Group, we are dedicated to excellence in the design and engineering of Lam's etch and deposition products. We drive innovation to ensure our cutting-edge solutions are helping to solve the biggest challenges in the semiconductor industry.
The impact you'll make
As a Systems Engineer at Lam, you will design complex frameworks, systems, or products for our wafer fabrication equipment. You will define system specifications, requirements, parameters, and compatibility to integrate hardware, software, and firmware into a cohesive system. By identifying, analyzing, and resolving system design weaknesses, combined with your multi-layered technical expertise, you will help shape the next generation of Lam initiatives.
What you'll do
  • Support evaluations of gas and liquid delivery systems, including mechanical design considerations, facilities installation, and new chemical evaluations.
  • Collaborate with third-party partners to develop best practices for process effluent management and gas abatement systems.
  • Assist in implementing effluent management solutions and tracking their performance in an applications lab environment.
  • Participate in emissions and environmental measurement Design of Experiments (DOE), including hands-on testing using analytical tools such as FTIR and QMS (training provided).
  • Analyze collected test data to help understand underlying chemical reactions, process behavior, and overall environmental performance.
  • Develop and maintain Best Known Method (BKM) documentation and supporting materials for both internal teams and external customers.
  • Participate in hazard analyses and safety design reviews for semiconductor tools and processes.
  • Advise internal and external customers on flammability assessments and dilution requirements.
  • Work closely with engineering, facilities, environmental health and safety (EHS), suppliers, and customers as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Build foundational expertise in the safety and environmental aspects of semiconductor tool design, testing, and process applications, with increasing responsibility over time.

Who we're looking for
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of related experience; or a Master's degree in the same fields with a minimum of 3 years of related experience; or a PhD in the same fields with no prior experience; or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Strong curiosity about how hardware, chemical, environmental, and safety systems work in real world semiconductor applications.
  • Flexibility to support diverse types of projects including design of experiment, hands-on setup and testing, data analysis, and technical documentation.
  • Willingness to learn new tools, processes, and safety practices in a semiconductor environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team, with strong written and verbal communication.
  • Familiarity with standard productivity tools such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Comfort working in controlled lab environments with hazardous materials, following established training and safety procedures.

Preferred qualifications
  • Internship, research, or laboratory experience.
  • Familiarity with environmental or chemical instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of SEMI standards, emissions, or safety engineering principles.
  • Experience with basic programming or data analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB, C#, or similar languages.
