"Everything is Better in Person" Summary Objective Person County Government is seeking a dependable and compassionate Part-Time Van Driver to join our team at the Person County Recycling Center. This important role helps transport individuals who receive developmental disability services to and from job sites safely and on time. As a Van Driver, you will play a key part in supporting clients' work and service schedules for Person Industries - making a meaningful difference in our community every day.
Hours: The schedule on Monday and Tuesday requires on and off all throughout the day for scheduled pickups - 6:00 AM - 5:00 PM (flex). Wednesday - AM only. Must possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record per County policy. This is a non-exempt part-time position. Part-time employees cannot work more than 1000 hours per calendar year.

Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Must complete Driver Safety training annually to include but not limited to: Trained on Driving Safety, Client Rights, Fire Suppression, Behavior Modification (at hire and annually) CPR, First Aid, Defensive Driving (at hire and annually) Policies and Procedures, Emergency Protocol, Bloodborne Pathogens, Confidentiality, Disability Awareness, Cultural Competency. Operate assigned motor vehicles in a safe manner.
Perform pre and post-trip inspections, ensuring that the vehicle has fuel and oil and that tires and doors are in proper working order. Ability to follow assigned schedule and transport passengers to and from destinations in a safe manner. Ensure all riders are approved and authorized by a PI Program Manager or Business Officer.
Communicate any passenger issues to the Assistant Director. Ability to maintain records of transports and submit timesheets on the required basis. Monitor and report any needs of the vehicle for maintenance or repairs.
Adhere to all laws & safety regulations including ensuring all passengers wear seat belts while transporting. Follow all Van Driver rules and policies. Must maintain an acceptable driving record based on the county vehicle policy.
Ability to use County cell phone according to policy. Must be able to provide flexibility to adjust, reassign, or reprioritize schedules in response to immediate operational needs. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Employee must be 21 years of age or older. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history. Special Certifications and Licenses None.
Person County conducts pre-employment screening on candidates. Job offers are conditional pending the following: A pre-employment drug screen for all candidates. Positions designated by Person County as Safety Sensitive are also subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
