Comments and Other Information
The District
Del Norte County Unified School District serves more than 4,000 K-12 students in ten regular schools, one comprehensive high school, one continuation high school, and several alternative education programs.
The Community
Del Norte County is located in the northwestern corner of California, where the Redwoods meet the Pacific Ocean. It is the home of Redwood National Park. Within its boundaries are the worlds tallest trees, a rugged Pacific coastline, and scenic rivers that make it one of the nation's most enchanting areas. Several microclimates are located within 15 minutes of Crescent City. Recreational activities include hiking, beachcombing, camping, surfing, hunting, fishing, boating, and more.
The pleasant coastal climate of our area allows the community to add to residents enjoyment by holding a number of annual events such as the Crab Races, the Easter Lily Festival, the Sea Cruise car show, and an old time Fourth of July celebration.
Crescent City is the county's only incorporated municipal entity and is the principle commercial center. Over half the county's residents live in the greater Crescent City area.
The Del Norte community is further enhanced by numerous music programs, a community concert association, amateur theater groups, and an active organization for cultural awareness.
Extended educational opportunities are available through the community college adjacent to Del Norte High School and the Del Norte University Center.
Fishing, agriculture, lumber, and tourism are among the area's main industries. Because of the large expanse of public lands and multiple public services many residents are public employees.
In comparison to other areas in California, Del Norte County residents enjoy short commutes, clean air, clean water, and ample living space.
