Description Expected Hire Pay Scale: Licensed Vocational Nurse I: $28.22 - $31.11 Hourly Licensed Vocation Nurse II: $31.15 - $34.34 Hourly The Del Norte County Health and Human Services Department, Public Health Branch, is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Licensed Vocational Nurse I/II. This position is classified as PERMANENT PART-TIME. Under general direction, provides support for various clinics in support of public health programs; provides counseling and training for patients and the public, performs related work as required

Detailed Work Activities Essential job duties may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. The list that follows is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

Conduct immunization and flu vaccination clinics for children and adults; evaluate medical records and determine the need for immunization or vaccination; administer immunizations and vaccines as protocol. Perform, read and evaluate TB skin tests; perform First Aide, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation; refers clients to health care providers as necessary. Instruct clients in good health practices; provide information on common diseases, illnesses and their prevention, including communicable disease.

Provide health-related information and instruction to individuals and families; assist in maintaining health education materials provided by the County. Maintain and update a variety of medical records; prepare written reports as required. Screens and schedules patients for examination by clinic staff.

Maintains clinic areas and supplies in a clean orderly condition. Orders and maintains an adequate inventory of clinic supplies and materials. Assesses children with special needs and/or suspected medical problems; coordinates with other agencies on instances of child abuse.

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Completion of an accredited university, collegiate, or specialized course of study in nursing. One (1) year of vocational nursing experience is desirable. Possession of a valid license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the state of California.

To reach an LVN II, incumbent must possess at least two (2) years experience as an LVN I or equivalent. Special Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's license. All County of Del Norte employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through State law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109).

Employment with the County of Del Norte requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Work related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requires: Possession of a valid license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the state of California.

Possession of or ability to obtain a class C California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record. Knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing as applied to public health practice. Knowledge of preventative medicine and sanitation.

Knowledge of community aspects of vocational nursing programs including provisions for continuity of patient care, nursing services in health programs and nursing care in the home including teaching preventive care. Knowledge of causes; means of transmission and methods of control of communicable diseases, including tuberculosis and venereal disease. Knowledge of child growth and development.

Ability to exercise independent judgment and plan, organize and conduct assigned public health nursing activities. Ability to work effectively with the public to assist in satisfactory resolution of health problems. Ability to provide liaison to the community in the direction of community health programs.

Ability to prepare records and related reports. Ability to analyze situations and take effective courses of action. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Typical Working Conditions: Work is generally performed in an office environment under both quiet and noisy conditions; continuous contact with general public, departmental and County staff, management, individuals and other outside organizations. Travel within Del Norte County and the State of California is required if necessary and job related.

Typical Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Hearing: Adequate to correctly interpret what is being said in both noisy and quiet conditions with the ability to localize from which direction a sound is coming.

Must be able to hear and identify both speech and non-speech sounds. Vision: Adequate to detect signs, symptoms and body language of program participants. Must have vision adequate to read and accurately interpret written communication, labels, charts, computer monitors and to accurately identify a variety of program supplies and materials.

Coordination & Dexterity: Limb movement is required as well as coordination and body equilibrium and balance. Mobility is important to reach with hands and arms and to stoop, kneel or crouch. Dexterity is important for handling a variety of supplies, equipment and materials.

The ability to operate a keyboard/typewriter and like equipment is required. The ability to operate a vehicle is required. Alertness, concentration, judgment, patience, memory, problem solving, initiative and the ability to work rationally and effectively in situations where immediate action is required.
