Adapture Renewables, Inc. is on a mission to be a leader in this new era of sustainable energy. Drawing upon an extensive knowledge base, we develop, finance, engineer, build, own, and operate high quality utility-scale photovoltaic projects and battery energy storage projects. Our Development team is looking for a talented Permitting Specialist to help support the efforts of our fast-growing company. Adapture Renewables is owned by KIRKBI Climate - the private holding and investment company of the Kirk Kristiansen family founded to build a sustainable future for the LEGO® brand through generations.
Overview
This position will work in our Development team and support the permitting process for utility-scale solar PV and BESS projects across the U.S. The Permitting Specialist will play a key role in advancing projects through regulatory milestones and contribute to our mission of delivering impactful, high-integrity clean energy solutions. This role reports to the Permitting Manager. The candidate can be based remotely in the U.S., with periodic travel to project sites and meetings with permitting authorities and stakeholders, and our Bay Area headquarters.
Core Responsibilities
  • Support the permitting strategy and assist in managing the permitting process from early-stage development through start of construction for solar PV and energy storage projects.
  • Prepare and execute permitting applications and submissions in alignment with project timelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with federal, state, and local permitting authorities to support the procurement of all necessary approvals.
  • Assist in managing relationships with external consultants, legal advisors, and environmental experts; support contract and scope coordination.
  • Support Adapture Renewables' representation at public hearings, stakeholder meetings, and regulatory briefings as needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Development, Engineering, Legal) to integrate permitting workflows into overall project execution.
  • Track and maintain all permitting documentation, applications, approvals, and mitigation requirements across active project portfolios.
  • Monitor relevant policy and regulatory developments that may impact permitting timelines or strategies.
  • Identify permitting risks and escalate with recommended mitigation strategies to the Permitting Manager.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in permitting, environmental compliance, or land use planning, preferably in utility-scale solar, wind, or renewable energy sectors.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Geography, or a related field; or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of local, state, and federal permitting regulations, including familiarity with NEPA, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act; CEQA experience a plus.
  • Experience supporting or managing environmental reviews, impact studies, and land use permitting applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate regulatory processes and maintain productive relationships with permitting agencies and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple permitting workstreams and deadlines concurrently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to clearly present permitting status updates and regulatory findings to internal teams.
  • Proficiency with GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS), project management platforms, and permitting tracking software preferred.
  • Must be willing to travel as needed, up to 25% of time
