The Impact You'll Make in this Role
As a Service & Repair Technical Writer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
  • Supporting the entire PSD USAC Service & Repair team in meeting customer demands for service support
  • Developing and maintaining a professional working relationship with both 3M and external personnel
  • Effectively communicating with other 3M team members and leadership on New Product Introduction (NPI) and product improvement projects, in the development of product technical support documentation
  • Designing and writing 3M product repair manuals our internal and external service networks need to maintain the safe operation of the products according to 3m specifications, which in turn will protect those who are using our products and meet their compliance and regulation requirements.
  • Learning the full portfolio of 3M PSD products supported by our team and gaining understanding of the audience that uses them.
  • Develop and maintain technician certification training documentation on the supported PSD 3M products
  • Learning the ability to instruct technician certification training on the supported PSD 3M products
  • Serving as an internal liaison between 3M Service & Repair, Sales, Engineering, Product Quality in resolving product technical problems.

Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher AND three (3) years of technical writing experience in a private, public, government or military environment.

OR
  • High School Diploma/GED from AND seven (7) years of technical writing experience in a private, public, government or military environment.

AND
  • Competency with desktop publishing tools and computers in general, including previous experience using the following tools for writing and publishing documents: Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
  • Excellent communication and research skills
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Experience in Project management
  • Content management
  • Experience in the emergency response/firefighting, or the fall protection industries
  • Experience in the design, functionality and application of PSD products
  • Understanding of commercial sales/service models
  • Ability to lift and place items or products weighing approximately 25 lbs. or less on a regular basis
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly.
  • Vocational/Trade, Technical diploma, and a minimum of three 3 years' experience of technical/mechanical/ product service or repair in a private, public, government or military environment
  • A minimum of three 3 years' experience in development and conducting technical training through direct assistance, and technician training sessions

Work location:
  • Onsite at the 3M Scott Fire and Safety Facility in Monroe NC

Travel: May include up to 30% domestic
Relocation Assistance: May be authorized
