Qualia

Austin, TX

$109K - $142K/yr

Full-time

Job description

At Qualia, we've built the leading B2B real estate technology that transforms the home buying and selling experience into a simple, secure, and enjoyable process. Our SMB and Enterprise products bring together users from across the real estate ecosystem---homebuyers and sellers, lenders, title and escrow agents, and real estate agents---onto a single shared digital closing platform, providing greater clarity and transparency to real estate transactions. Today, through our business customers across the country, millions of consumers use Qualia to close on homes every year.

WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON

We are hiring pioneering and collaborative engineers to build our next generation of intelligent products. Our quality engineers are conscientious hackers who thrive on collaboration and are adept at driving large-scale projects in the fast-changing domain of artificial intelligence. You will help build the automation, tooling, and quality systems that let us ship complex, AI-driven products with confidence, bringing rigor and trust to a data-rich industry.

As a Senior SDET, you're a software engineer first, you build test infrastructure and tooling, not manual test cases or scripting of the test case. You can take a hard, loosely-defined problem and solve it, and you're trusted to make the technical calls on framework and strategy at every layer of the testing pyramid along with the Engineering leadership, from unit to end-to-end. You work closely with the engineering team, understand the systems you're testing at a deep technical level, and mentor other engineers on writing better tests, tooling, and infrastructure code

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Your work will focus on building and maintaining test infrastructure, release orchestration tooling, and performance testing systems as production-grade software, not scripts
  • You'll design and build our test automation frameworks, including our migration from Cypress to Playwright, and own core infrastructure such as test environment provisioning, parallelization, and CI/CD test execution at scale
  • You'll define the right automation framework and strategy at each layer of the testing pyramid unit, integration, API, and end-to-end, so coverage lives at the layer where it's fastest and most reliable
  • You'll partner on maintaining release orchestration tooling, the systems that manage build promotion, deployment gating, and rollback across environments
  • You'll build observability into our test frameworks and scripts themselves, tracking flakiness, execution time, and failure patterns so we can measure and improve the reliability of our automation, not just the product it tests
  • You will dig into challenging engineering problems, from flaky test infrastructure to AI-assisted testing tooling, and see your work through from design to deployment. Our engineers are generalists, and your responsibilities will be flexible based on company needs as well as your skills and interests. You will have real autonomy to identify and pursue impactful work
YOUR BACKGROUND THAT LIKELY MAKES YOU A MATCH
  • We are looking for strong SDETs with 5+ years of experience as a software engineer building test infrastructure, developer tooling, or release engineering systems, not just writing test cases or scripting
  • You have strong programming ability in JavaScript/TypeScript, and can design and build backend services and tooling for test infrastructure from scratch, not just automation scripts
  • You have experience building or scaling CI/CD systems, release orchestration pipelines, or test infrastructure (environment management, test parallelization, execution frameworks) at a systems level
  • You understand the testing pyramid and have experience choosing the right automation approach and tooling for each layer
  • You have experience building observability or monitoring into test frameworks, tracking flakiness, execution trends, and failure signals to drive automation reliability
  • You have hands-on experience using AI tools in the quality workflow, from test generation to flaky-test triage, along with the judgment to know when AI-generated output needs a closer look
  • You're comfortable mentoring junior engineers and raising the quality bar on the teams you work with
  • You have thrived in fast-moving engineering environments and enjoy solving hard infrastructure and tooling problems independently
THE TECH STACK YOU'LL USE
  • Javascript / NodeJS / Typescript
  • Cypress, Playwright, AI agentic framework
  • Unit/Integration testing: Jest
  • API testing: Postman / REST Assured
  • Performance testing framework (Locust/Gatlin/JMeter / k6)
  • CI/CD & release orchestration (Jenkins / GitHub Actions / ArgoCD / Spinnaker/ Harness)
  • Observability/monitoring tooling (Datadog or equivalent)
  • MongoDB
  • Microservice architecture / Kubernetes
  • AWS / Google Cloud

While this role is based in Austin, Texas, we're open to exploring remote possibilities for qualified candidates. We have other physical office locations in San Francisco, California, and Concord, New Hampshire.
