Job description

At Qualia, we've built the leading B2B real estate technology that transforms the home buying and selling experience into a simple, secure, and enjoyable process. Our SMB and Enterprise products bring together users from across the real estate ecosystem---homebuyers and sellers, lenders, title and escrow agents, and real estate agents---onto a single shared digital closing platform, providing greater clarity and transparency to real estate transactions. Today, through our business customers across the country, millions of consumers use Qualia to close on homes every year.

WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON

We are hiring pioneering and collaborative engineers to build our next generation of intelligent products. Our quality engineers are conscientious hackers who thrive on collaboration and are adept at driving large-scale projects in the fast-changing domain of artificial intelligence. You will be at the forefront of building the automation, tooling, and quality systems that let us ship complex, AI-driven products with confidence, bringing rigor and trust to a data-rich industry.

As a Senior Quality Engineer, you are a technical leader with a significant track record of building quality into the engineering process rather than testing it after the fact. You excel at taking ownership of ambiguous, complex, and business-critical quality problems that span multiple teams. You have extensive experience making and influencing key decisions on test strategy, automation architecture, and quality gates, and you possess the deep technical expertise to back them up. You have learned from past challenges, can navigate high-pressure release situations, and are a multiplier for the engineering organization, actively mentoring senior engineers and elevating the quality bar for the entire team.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Your work will focus on building and scaling our test automation, quality infrastructure, and performance testing systems
  • You'll lead the design and implementation of our core automation frameworks, including our migration from Cypress to Playwright, along with our performance testing framework
  • You'll define how RCA and failure triage work across teams, and personally lead RCA on the failures that stump everyone else
  • You will tackle our most challenging quality problems, from automation architecture to AI-assisted testing, driving projects from ideation to deployment and beyond. Our engineers are generalists, and your responsibilities will be flexible based on company needs as well as your skills and interests. You will have a high degree of autonomy to identify and pursue impactful work
YOUR BACKGROUND THAT LIKELY MAKES YOU A MATCH
  • We are looking for strong quality engineers with 8-10+ years of experience building and scaling test automation for complex software systems
  • You have excellent programming ability in JavaScript/TypeScript, and are comfortable writing and maintaining production-grade automation code
  • You have a proven track record of designing, leading, and delivering large-scale, cross-functional quality initiatives
  • You've root-caused complex, cross-functional failures and built the triage process others rely on
  • You have hands-on experience integrating AI into the quality workflow, from test generation to flaky-test triage, along with the judgment to know when AI-generated output needs a closer look
  • You have significant experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership that raises the bar for an entire engineering organization
  • You have thrived in multiple engineering environments and have a history of driving quality strategy and vision

While this role is based in Austin, Texas, we're open to exploring remote possibilities for qualified candidates. We have other physical office locations in San Francisco, California, and Concord, New Hampshire.

THE TECH STACK YOU'LL USE
  • Javascript / NodeJS / Typescript
  • Cypress, Playwright, AI agentic framework
  • Performance testing framework (JMeter / k6)
  • MongoDB
  • Microservice architecture / Kubernetes
  • AWS / Google Cloud
WHY QUALIA

Qualia is made up of incredibly bright, mission-driven coworkers who are passionate about using technology to solve real-world problems and we're growing quickly. In order to continue building an engaging and dynamic organization, we're committed to giving everyone the support they need to do great work.

Our benefits package is designed to allow our team members to be their best selves, both in and out of the workplace. In addition to comprehensive health plans, a 401k program, and commuter benefits, we prioritize family and personal well-being through professional development, parental leave, and a flexible time off policy. Qualia offers a robust online onboarding program to train new hires, biweekly all hands meetings, and a variety of internal virtual events to keep employees connected.

We believe diverse perspectives and backgrounds are critical to building great technology, and our goal is to cultivate an environment where people feel equally valued and respected. Qualia is proud to be an equal-opportunity workplace, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, marital status, age, citizenship, socioeconomic status, disability, or veteran status.
