What is a performance manager?

A performance manager seeks to create a system in which employees can perform at their best by creating clear goals and expectations. Rather than a traditional corporate system of employee appraisal and evaluation, performance managers try to communicate end goals and align each employee’s work with these aims. In this role, you may seek the development of benchmarks so that the company’s departments or groups can measure their progress concretely. This is an ongoing effort. Benchmarks and goals must change, so you must continually find new ways to measure progress and to inspire effort.

How does a performance manager typically collaborate with other departments to drive organizational success?

Performance Managers work closely with leaders and teams across departments—such as HR, operations, and finance—to align performance metrics with organizational goals. They often facilitate regular meetings to review progress, provide feedback, and identify areas for improvement. This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to translate data insights into actionable strategies that support both team development and business objectives. Effective collaboration ensures that performance initiatives are integrated and sustained throughout the organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a performance manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Performance Manager, you need a strong background in analytics, goal-setting frameworks, and organizational development, often supported by a degree in business or human resources. Familiarity with performance management systems, HR analytics tools, and project management software is typically required. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities set standout candidates apart in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for driving employee productivity, aligning team objectives with organizational goals, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

What is the difference between Performance Manager vs Performance Analyst?

Job description

Job Summary

As the largest online distributor of restaurant supplies and equipment, WebstaurantStore offers a catalog of more than 430,000 products supported by fast, reliable shipping. Nearly all our technological design, development, and system management are handled in-house, allowing us to build custom, innovative solutions in a rapidly evolving e-commerce landscape.

Due to this continued growth, we’re seeking a Senior QA Performance Engineer to join our team. This is a high-visibility role with reach across all active development initiatives, working closely with both engineering and leadership to shape performance strategy as the organization grows.

You’ll have broad impact across our full product portfolio, owning performance testing end-to-end across web and mobile applications as we scale our infrastructure and containerized deployments.

Responsibilities

As a Senior QA Performance Engineer, you will:

  • Use JMeter to perform load and performance testing on web and mobile applications.
  • Collect necessary performance targets and/or KPIs from stakeholders’ pre-performance execution.
  • Design, script and execute load, stress, and scalability testing and deliver comprehensive reports to the project team.
  • Collaborate on performance related test cases to execute and provide necessary data to peers for bug entry.
  • Report issues discovered during performance evaluation and work closely with the engineering team to analyze the issues and track them to resolution.
  • Keep abreast of current performance testing methodologies, and work autonomously to update tools, skills, and techniques.
  • Mentor Mid and Junior Engineers on Performance Testing best practices.
  • Work with leadership in Performance Testing Strategizing and Planning.
  • Create and update existing documentation.
  • Estimate the Level of Effort needed to test and complete tasks.
Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed while sitting/standing and interfacing with a personal computer.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
  • Requires the regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Requires occasional bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
  • Requires the ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 50lbs.
Remote Work Qualifications
  • Access to a reliable and secure high-speed internet connection. Cable or fiber internet connections (at least 75mbps download/10mbps upload) are preferred, as satellite connections often cannot support the technologies used to perform day-to-day tasks.
  • Access to a home router and modem.
  • A dedicated home office space that is noise- and distraction-free. The space should have strong wireless connection or a wired Ethernet connection (wired connection is preferred, if possible).
  • A valid, physical address (apartment, suite, etc.). PO Boxes are not supported, as a physical address is required for you to receive your computer equipment.
  • The desire and ability to work and communicate with other team members via chat, webcam, etc.
  • Legal residents of one of the following states: (AK, AL, AR, AZ, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NM, NV, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WI, WV, or WY). H-1B Visa Sponsorship Not Available, W2 only.
Experience

We are looking for driven, motivated candidates who MUST HAVE:

  • 5+ years of performance test simulations and/or experience in performance analysis, web-based enterprise applications.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and using the performance testing tool JMeter, as well as performance monitoring tools such as Grafana.
  • Experience in designing test scenarios and load profiles based on application functionality and usage patterns.
  • Proficiency in an object-oriented programming language (C#.NET or Java).
  • Knowledge of load testing and performance testing concepts and methods as applied in a C#.NET application environment.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure components (servers, network, load balancers, switches, firewalls, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of throughput, latency, memory and CPU utilization.
  • Advanced SQL knowledge.
  • Strong knowledge of source control tools, like GIT.
  • Ability to effectively establish and maintain working relationships with all levels of the organization.
  • Experience with code profiling tools and techniques for performance analysis.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience creating Grafana dashboards for performance monitoring and visualization.
  • Experience performing performance testing in Kubernetes environments, including evaluating resource usage and application scalability in containerized deployments.
Education
  • This role does not require a degree. We value relevant skills and experience and alignment with our core values above all else.
