What is a performance lifestyle advisor?

Performance Lifestyle Advisors are professionals who help individuals, such as athletes, executives, or high-performing professionals, optimize their daily habits, routines, and behaviors to achieve peak performance in their personal and professional lives. They provide guidance on areas like nutrition, sleep, stress management, exercise, and time management. Their goal is to help clients develop sustainable lifestyle strategies that support long-term well-being and success. Performance Lifestyle Advisors often work in sports organizations, corporate settings, or independently as consultants.

How does a performance lifestyle advisor typically collaborate with other professionals to support clients' goals?

Performance Lifestyle Advisors often work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including nutritionists, fitness trainers, mental health professionals, and medical practitioners. This collaboration ensures clients receive well-rounded support tailored to their individual needs, whether in sports, corporate settings, or general wellness. Advisors regularly communicate with these professionals to align on strategies, monitor progress, and adjust plans as clients' goals evolve. This team-based approach not only enhances client outcomes but also provides valuable learning and networking opportunities for advisors.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a performance lifestyle advisor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Performance Lifestyle Advisor, you need a solid understanding of nutrition, exercise science, and behavior change, typically supported by a relevant degree or certification such as NASM or ISSA. Familiarity with health assessment tools, fitness tracking software, and wellness program management systems is often required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, motivational coaching, and the ability to tailor advice to individual needs help advisors build trust and drive lasting client results. These skills and qualities are crucial for effectively guiding clients toward sustainable lifestyle improvements and optimal performance.

The Performance Advisor helps prospective, new, and existing members realize the full value of that ecosystem through personalized consultation, expert guidance, and meaningful relationships that evolve alongside their individual needs, wants, and goals.
Serving as a trusted expert, the Performance Advisor connects members with the experiences, services, and specialists best equipped to support their journey. Whether introducing a member to Personal Training powered by EQX OS and Equifit, Pilates for precision and longevity, Group Fitness for community and motivation, or Spa and recovery services that support regeneration and performance, this role curates a personalized path that reflects each member's goals and evolves over time.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Member Onboarding & Consultation:
The first impression of Equinox should feel like the beginning of something significant. The Advisor creates that moment - and builds on it.
  • Conduct personalized welcome consultations with new members to understand their goals, lifestyle, and experience with fitness and wellness.
  • Introduce members to the full spectrum of club offerings - Personal Training, Pilates, Group Fitness, Spa, and beyond - through an educational, consultative conversation.
  • Conduct high-quality Equifit Assessments that reflect Equinox standards and deliver a premium, personalized experience. Leveraging this session to understand their need, provide them with insights from the assessment, and share ways the club offerings can support their goals.

The Equinox Experience: Driving Member Value Across All Offerings
The Advisor is the member's guide to the full Equinox experience - leading with Personal Training as the foundational investment while connecting members to the complete ecosystem of services that support their goals and lifestyle.
  • Utilize Equinox Sales Training techniques to present Personal Training as the foundational investment, clearly communicating the value of one-on-one coaching in the context of the member's individual goals.
  • Ensure a seamless, confidence-building handoff of new clients to the best-matched coach based on:
    • Training goals and programming needs
    • Scheduling availability
    • Coaching style and personality fit

  • Present Spa and recovery services as the rejuvenation pillar, helping members understand that recovery is not optional; it is part of the practice.
  • Connect members to Group Fitness, specialty classes, and community programming that align with their interests and schedule.
  • Serve as an informed resource on all in-club services - fitness programming, Pilates, Spa, Shop, and member perks - so every conversation adds value.
  • Lead every member interaction with curiosity and active listening, making all offerings relevant and available in response to where the member is on their personal journey.

Member Engagement & Follow-Up:

  • Re-engage members who are not currently utilizing in-club services - identifying barriers and offer tailored solutions.
