Job description

The Engineering Manager is responsible for managing all engineering and design activities and assuring that all of those activities are performed in accordance with the company Quality System, Safety Policies and customer requirements.
Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for managing day to day engineering and design activities and ensure compliance with the company quality system in order to maintain high standards of quality, reliability and safety.
  • Responsible for developing new Engineering Operating Procedures to support the company quality system and upgrading and maintaining existing Operating Procedures.
  • Lead the engineers including determining project assignments, priorities and performance
  • Support the commercial team during bids and proposals
  • Participate in project execution in conjunction with project management and engineering staff
  • Ability to support and assist the project and product engineers, welding engineers and materials engineers including:
    • Lead design activities including creative brainstorming, proof-of-concept calculations, system layouts, top-down assembly design, detail component design and drafting.
    • Project planning in terms of the following: system layout and detail design, system analysis and verification, manufacturing support, documentation, reports, design reviews and customer presentations
    • Prepare for customer interfaces and presentations
  • Technical mentoring and direction provided to other less senior engineers on the team
  • Responsible for determining the engineering resources and evaluating that the team has the appropriate tools. Develop a succession plan and assist individuals with a development path as needed or requested.
  • Responsible for product development in response to customer requirements

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Required: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university
  • Preferred: Advanced degree in Engineering, business or other technical focus, PE license
  • Experience - 12+ years of experience in Engineering. Minimum of 5 years in a supervisor role.
  • Strong understanding of Static & Dynamic Structural Analysis.
  • Experience with design of machined and welded structures a plus.
  • Experience with linear and nonlinear structural Finite Element Analysis (FEA) preferred.
  • Experience with structural, fatigue, and function testing preferred.
  • Machine shop, welding, and backgrounds in other manufacturing methods preferred.
  • Experience correlating test data to analysis math models a plus.
  • Must be conversant with 3D CAD programs. SolidWorks. Mechanical Desktop (AutoCAD) desirable.
  • Must have an understanding of NDE, raw material, & forging.
  • Must be familiar with Roark's (Stress) and Peterson's (Stress Concentration) Engineering Handbooks.
  • Must be competent with free body diagrams, load path, stiffness, and deflection determinations.
  • Ability to read blueprints and industry specifications.
  • Experience with an engineering/fabrication company in the oil & gas industry
  • Experience working on a project basis
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Must be able to maintain lasting client relationships
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Experience with deepwater riser systems a plus.
  • Experience with strain gages, load cell, and data acquisition systems a plus.

Work Environment/Conditions:
  • This position will require working primarily indoors in a smoke-free office and manufacturing facility but may also require the employee to be outdoors on occasion.
  • Limited travel will be required to support offsite personnel and business projects.
  • Occasional assignments will require remote accessing and may include evening or weekend schedules.
  • The noise level is usually moderate. Employee will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts.
