Our Dallas, TX Wunderlich-Malec Engineering team is seeking a travel-ready, Construction Project Manager (CPM) who is eager to successfully deliver automation solutions for our clients in the West Texas/Lubbock area. The CPM will assist the Business Unit Manager in achieving the overall strategic objectives of the company. The primary areas of responsibility assigned to the CPM are project management, project delivery, and total quality management at our client site. The CPM holds full lifecycle accountability for the successful execution of automation solutions—from project initiation through closeout. The CPM is also accountable for project safety, quality, schedule, and financial performance while ensuring client expectations for scope, budget, and delivery are consistently met or exceeded.

Success in this role requires strong problem-solving capabilities, well-developed interpersonal skills, sound business judgment, and a commitment to building long-term client partnerships. The CPM demonstrates effectiveness by delivering predictable project outcomes and securing repeat business with both new and existing clients. The CPM is expected to leverage all necessary resources to fulfill contractual obligations and contribute significant technical expertise. On-site assignments typically run 1–3 years.

Major Responsibilities

  • Project Delivery: Manage projects that safely deliver engineering solutions exceeding client expectations, on time and within budget.
  • Budgeting & Cost Control: Develop and administer project budgets, fiscal controls, and quality control provisions; perform project cost estimating and value engineering as appropriate.
  • Client & Stakeholder Representation: Represent the Firm in business dealings with clients, consultants, contractors, and public/private agencies, and serve as WM’s primary point of contact with client site management and staff for daily assigned duties.
  • Business Development & Quality Assurance: Participate in business development and quality assurance activities as directed by the Business Unit Manager.
  • Technical & Proposal Support: Provide technical assistance in proposal development, presentations, reports, studies, and project delivery.
  • Additional Duties: Build trust and credibility with clients to deliver an outstanding client experience that increases the likelihood of award and supports repeat work. Perform other duties as assigned by the Firm’s Principals and client managers.

Minimum Requirements

Education No specific degree is required for this position; however, a background in engineering, construction management, or a related technical discipline is preferred.

Experience 5–10+ years of related experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge and capability in project management; mechanical system concept development, design, and layout; project budgeting and scheduling; preparing technical sections for project and procurement specifications; and reviewing drawings and technical specifications
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong understanding of BMS, EPMS, electrical engineering, design, and documentation principles, practices, and standards; familiarity with materials and systems; and thorough knowledge of engineering detailing and construction methodology

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations A professional engineering (PE) license is not required, but is desired for this position.

Physical Demands of Position

Requirements This role is primarily performed in office, industrial manufacturing environments, new facilities construction sites, requiring moderate physical effort and minimal exposure to physical risk. Regular interaction and coordination with clients, consultants, contractors, subcontractors, and internal project teams is expected. Daily use of a computer, standard office applications, and a mobile phone is required.

Working / Residence Plan

  • Depending on project needs, up to 100% travel to project sites may be required, excluding approved vacation or paid time off.
  • Work is typically performed Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work required based on project needs.
  • On-site project assignments are nationwide and may last approximately 1–3 years
  • This is a Full-Time, Exempt position

  • Weekend travel home may be available up to two times per month, subject to project schedule requirements and approval. Project housing, airfare, meals, and incidentals are covered by the company in accordance with company policy.

Field/Client Site Environment (Primary)

  • Ability to climb stairs/ladders, work at heights, and occasionally lift up to 40 lbs
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and working in and around industrial equipment
  • Exposure to construction, industrial, and processing environments, including noise, temperature changes, and moving machinery
  • Ability to safely wear required PPE (safety glasses, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, and electrical safety gear as applicable)
  • Comfortable performing electrical/instrumentation checkout and troubleshooting (e.g., voltage testing, control panel wiring)

Office/Trailer Work (Occasional)

  • Periods of sitting/standing at a computer, including in on-site construction trailers
  • Standard office/PC and cell phone use for documentation, communication, and project support
