Job description

Commercial HVAC Startup & Commissioning Technician

Cincinnati, OH

Put your HVAC experience to work commissioning new systems—not chasing neglected equipment in the middle of the night.

Perfection Group is hiring an experienced Commercial HVAC Startup & Commissioning Technician to join our Cincinnati team. Approximately 95% of the equipment you’ll work on is new, there is no nighttime service work, and weekend work is minimal.

This is a highly technical, hands-on opportunity to review installations, perform equipment startups, troubleshoot system issues, and confirm that complex HVAC systems operate as designed. You’ll work closely with project teams, engineers, contractors, and customers—and have opportunities to grow as our commissioning capabilities expand.

A company vehicle, major tools, continued technical training, and a clear opportunity for professional growth are provided.

What You’ll Do

  • Review new commercial HVAC installations for compliance with project documents, design specifications, and manufacturer requirements
  • Start up, test, commission, and document newly installed equipment and systems
  • Work with rooftop units, split systems, makeup-air units, energy-recovery systems, VAV, VVT and VRF systems, pumps, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, refrigeration equipment, and related components
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, technical drawings, equipment submittals, and sequences of operation
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, hydronic, controls, and system-integration issues
  • Verify equipment interlocks, safeties, controls, setpoints, and sequences of operation
  • Identify installation or design concerns and recommend practical corrective actions
  • Communicate findings clearly to engineers, project managers, field teams, contractors, and customers
  • Perform operational testing and analyze system performance
  • Complete accurate startup, commissioning, deficiency, and corrective-action documentation
  • Train customers and end users on the proper operation and maintenance of installed systems
  • Support out-of-town projects when needed

What Makes This Opportunity Different

  • Approximately 95% of the equipment you’ll work on is new
  • No nighttime service work
  • Minimal weekend work
  • Highly technical, project-focused assignments
  • Exposure to a wide range of advanced commercial HVAC systems
  • Opportunities to expand your commissioning, controls, balancing, and leadership capabilities
  • A company vehicle, major tools, and continued technical development
  • Opportunity to grow as the team and commissioning function expand

You May Be a Great Fit If You

  • Have 10 or more years of commercial or industrial HVAC experience
  • Enjoy startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and solving complex technical problems
  • Understand refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, hydronic, and controls systems
  • Can confidently interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, sequences of operation, and technical specifications
  • Possess strong HVAC electrical skills involving interlock wiring, control circuits, and system diagnostics
  • Have strong refrigeration skills, including diagnostics, charging, and piping installation
  • Diagnose difficult system issues and develop technically sound solutions
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with engineers, contractors, customers, and field teams
  • Work independently while contributing positively to the larger project team
  • Take ownership of documentation, follow-through, safety, and system performance
  • Have air- and water-balancing experience or a desire to develop those skills
  • Are comfortable supporting occasional out-of-town projects
  • Hold a Universal EPA Section 608 certification
  • Hold a Kentucky HVAC license
  • Have completed OSHA 30 training
  • Have completed an accredited HVAC technical-school program
  • Hold a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
