Salary:
Summer Programming - Certified Teachers - Current hourly rate of pay (per diem) for instructional days with students(final year of Per Diem), $34.00 an hour for classroom prep/orientation days.
Summer Programming - Non-Certified TOEL Teachers - $34.00 an hour.
Summer Dates: Inservice dates 6/22/2026 & 6/23/2026, Student dates: 6/24/26-8/6/26, and close out day 8/7/2026

Job Goal: To provide elementary English Learners specialized instruction for the purposes of developing the students' ability to effectively perform courses of study in English and acquire the English language.
Job Qualifications:
  1. Hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education or masters degree, preferred.
  2. ?Possess or be eligible for Certification in the State of Delaware for Teacher to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) or Teacher of English Learners, preferred.
  3. Must have experience working with students on grammar, vocabulary, writing, reading, speaking, and listening fundamentals.
  4. Teaching experience in elementary or secondary curriculum and instruction, is preferred.
  5. Bilingual or multilingual is recommended but not required.

Essential Functions:
Within an established school or department procedural guidelines, the incumbent performs fundamental tutoring functions to comply with District policies and governmental agency regulations. Essential job functions may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Participate in the preprogram preparation days.
  • Participate in the planning and instruction of the summer curriculum for groups of students folllowing the Brandywine School Districts plan such as Bookworms, and Eureka/Zearn.
  • Mitigate Unfinished Learning: Utilize research based best practices to address critical prerequisite skills and standards that students must know to advance in their learning.
  • Accelerate Learning: Provide acceleration opportunities through looking ahead at key standards to ensure opportunity and acess for all students.
  • Monitor student progress toward achievement of instructional goals and write weekly and end of program progress reports if applicable to your position.
  • Monitor and track attendance.
  • Develop and nurture the students' emotional, cognitive, and social abilities.
  • Interact with students in a polite, caring, and respectful manner.
  • Respond to student mishbehavior appropriately and successfully.
  • Demonstrate clear and accurate oral and written communication.
  • Engage students in learning STEM skills and thinking with materials provided.
  • Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
  • Work cooperatively with staff, students, and parents.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, use hands to the finger(s), handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, use fingers to type and/or write; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, and color vision, peripheral and depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 40 pounds. If lifting in excess of this weight is necessary, the assistance of a second person is required. The physical demands of this position will include the ability of the individual to perform all of the essential functions and related responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Work Environment: This position normally performs the majority of work in a school building or work office environment.
