Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a per diem Research Assistant for the department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, assist in research projects designed to identify molecular mechanisms in Mycobacterium avium that regulate physiological changes during stress.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Prepare media and other solutions required for growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium abscessus.
  • Study the role of toxins derived from toxin-antitoxin systems in Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium abscessus by comparing the transcriptomes and proteomes in cells with or without toxin expression. Perform any relevant assays to validate these results.
  • Study the relationship between toxin-antitoxin system abundance in clinical isolates and virulence, esp. in strains derived from cystic fibrosis patients.
  • Laboratory housekeeping.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
