What is a Per Diem HTS Classification?

A Per Diem HTS Classification refers to a temporary or as-needed position responsible for classifying goods according to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) of the United States. Professionals in this role analyze product descriptions, materials, and uses to assign the correct HTS code for customs and import/export purposes. This ensures that items are accurately reported to customs authorities and assessed the correct duties and taxes. Per diem means they work on a flexible, non-regular basis, typically filling in as needed for specific projects or peak periods.

Per Diem Hts Classification refers to a type of employment status where workers are paid daily or for short-term assignments, often without benefits. Full-time employees typically work 35-40 hours per week with benefits, while part-time employees work fewer hours and may have limited or no benefits. Per diem workers usually have flexible schedules and are paid based on days worked, often used in healthcare and staffing roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Per Diem HTS Classification Specialist, and why are they important?

To succeed as a Per Diem HTS Classification Specialist, you need strong analytical skills, knowledge of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), and experience with import/export compliance, typically supported by relevant education or certification in trade compliance. Familiarity with customs management software, classification databases, and regulatory research tools is essential.
