What are PEOs (Professional Employer Organizations)?

PEOs, or Professional Employer Organizations, are firms that provide comprehensive HR solutions for small and medium-sized businesses. They handle tasks such as payroll, benefits, compliance, and risk management by entering into a co-employment relationship with the client company. This allows businesses to focus on their core operations while the PEO manages administrative and regulatory responsibilities. By partnering with a PEO, companies can often access better benefits, reduce HR workload, and improve compliance with employment laws.

What are some common challenges faced by PEO Implementation Specialists during the onboarding process?

PEO Implementation Specialists often encounter challenges such as coordinating between multiple stakeholders, managing tight onboarding timelines, and ensuring the seamless integration of client HR systems with the PEO’s platforms. They must also address unique client needs, compliance issues, and effectively communicate complex processes to clients who may be unfamiliar with PEO services. Strong organizational skills and adaptability are key to overcoming these hurdles and ensuring a smooth transition for new clients.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a PEO Insurance Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a PEO Insurance Specialist, you need a solid understanding of insurance products, risk management, and compliance regulations, typically backed by relevant industry experience or certifications such as a Property and Casualty license. Familiarity with HRIS systems, insurance management platforms, and payroll software is often required. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication skills help you excel in client interactions and problem-solving. These skills ensure accurate policy administration, regulatory compliance, and high client satisfaction in a complex, fast-paced industry.

Job description

Accounting Manager/Senior Accountant

Canton, MI

voxeljet is currently seeking for a full-time Accounting Manager/Senior Accountant to serve as the operational backbone of the U.S. finance team. This role reports to the Managing Director, North America, with an indirect reporting line to the Global CFO. This is the person who actually runs the close: owns the GL, the books, the reconciliations, and the discipline that makes the numbers reliable.

This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in clean books, repeatable processes, and a close that lands on time every month. The right candidate has the technical depth to handle inventory, cost, and revenue recognition in a manufacturing environment, and the operational rigor to make sure nothing slips through the cracks.

voxeljet/ExOne is a global leader in industrial 3D printing, pioneering the development and commercialization of large-format binder jetting and high-speed sintering technologies for demanding production environments. With operations spanning North America and Europe, voxeljet serves a diverse range of industries – including automotive, aerospace, foundry, architecture, and consumer goods – delivering both industrial 3D printing systems and on demand parts manufacturing services.

What can we offer YOU?

  • Competitive Pay
  • Health, Vision, and Dental Insurance
  • Long-term disability and life insurance options
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Opportunity to grow with a growing business
  • Great environment with great people!

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA preferred
  • 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Hands-on experience running a full-cycle monthly close, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
  • Strong working knowledge of inventory and cost accounting (standard cost, PPV, variance analysis, E&O reserves)
  • Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, ASC 606, IFRS, and internal controls
  • Functional SAP experience
  • Advanced Excel; comfortable with pivot tables, lookups, and large reconciliations
  • Comfortable learning and applying AI to enhance processes and outcomes
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and process-disciplined
  • Onsite at the Canton, MI facility

Key Responsibilities

Monthly Close Execution:

  • Own the full monthly close: journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, intercompany matching, and variance review.
  • Prepare and post recurring journal entries (prepaids, accruals, depreciation, payroll booking).
  • Ensure every balance sheet account reconciliation is complete, accurate, and tied to source documentation – every month, no exceptions.
  • Maintain a clean, well-organized close binder ready for audit at any time.

General Ledger & Cost Accounting:

  • Own the general ledger and the chart of accounts.
  • Manage fixed assets and depreciation schedules.
  • Run inventory and cost accounting: standard cost rolls, PPV, variance analysis, E&O reserves, cycle count oversight, and inventory valuation tie-out.
  • Investigate and resolve cost variances; partner with operations on root-cause review.

Revenue Recognition & Tax:

  • Apply ASC 606 to equipment sales and service contracts; maintain deferred revenue schedules.
  • Work with 3rd party to support sales/use tax returns.
  • Review payroll output from the outsourced provider (PEO) and book the associated entries.
  • Support the annual statutory audit with PBC schedules, walkthroughs, and auditor follow-ups.

Process & Controls:

  • Document accounting processes and key controls in operational, runnable form.
  • Identify and implement improvements to reduce close cycle time, manual work, and reconciliation surprises.
  • Partner with AP/AR support to ensure subledgers stay clean and ready to close.
