We are seeking a qualified Peeler Operator for our utility pole operations in Goodwater, Alabama. This role operates the pole shaver and related system components in a productive, efficient and safe manner.
Principal Responsibilities:
  • Processes barkie poles through shaving machine, clean bark removal and smooth shaves poles
  • Maintains shaver system equipment including daily service of parts, grease, inspect, and cleaning
  • Changes and maintains cutter parts, properly sets and calibrates knives for optimum efficiency
  • Secures operating systems by established start-up and shut-down procedures
  • Documents and reports quality, mechanical and operations production to the supervisor
  • Assists in maintenance and repair of system equipment as required
  • Assists in receipt of inbound materials, tally and marks loads, and records information
  • Assists in inspection and reclassification of round stock as required
  • Assists in loading and unloading of products, sets dunnage, loads trucks, rail cars and bands loads
  • Assists in cutting, loading and shipment of salvage logs and firewood
  • Communicates production quality concerns with appropriate individuals
  • Participates and contributes to company safety program
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Experience: Scaling experience and peeler experience is helpful; experience with minor mechanical repairs, hydraulics, and electrical preferred

  • Good eye/hand coordination
  • Good paperwork skills
  • Keeps an organized work area
