The Finishing Associate will perform a variety of tasks in the finishing department and acquire skills on the shop floor through cross training and job rotations. Associate will perform the summarized jobs listed below.
ESSENTIAL TASKS:
  • Material handling

Straightener Operator:
  • Use straightener equipment to provide in-line operations with a straight bar product for peeling and grinding.
  • Set up and operate equipment as directed by operating instructions.
  • Use measuring equipment to verify accuracy of straightness of bar.
  • Check material for dimensional accuracy.
  • Visually inspect material for surface defects and mark findings to the other in-line processes.
  • Follow traveler paperwork to assess correct sup-up operations.

Peeler Operator:
  • Use peeling equipment to remove excess material from the surface of hot-rolled bar product.
  • Set up and operate equipment as directed.
  • Check material for dimensional accuracy
  • Visually inspect material for surface defects and mark findings for grinding operations.
  • Follow traveler paperwork to assess correct sup-up operations.

Grinder Operator:
  • Use grinding equipment to remove surface defects such as laps, seams, pits, and cracks as identified by in-process inspection.
  • Check materials for dimensional accuracy.
  • Visually inspect material for surface defects and mark findings for cut-off operations.
  • Detect and report damaged material and improper operation to proper supervision.

Mark and Pack:
  • Wrap and package order appropriately.
  • Weigh material and record on shipping tag.
  • Visually inspect for conformance of product to customer requirements.
  • Complete packaging of metal to customer per special instructions and customer requirements.
  • Use computer system to begin and end operations following all mill and technical instructions.
  • Operate spectrotest alloy identification machine by using proper mode and grade of alloy.
  • Recalibrate machine with test samples on a routine basis and per quality control procedures.

Saw Operator:
  • Operate abrasive saw to cut a variety of materials following established methods and procedures.
  • Work from shop orders and instructions to cut bars, and other materials to specified lengths and/or cut material samples from parts for metallurgical laboratory or other use.
  • Stamp or mark and identify pieces following established practice.
  • Set up saw for proper length cuts, and cut samples as required.
  • Detect and report defective materials.
  • Must load and unload machine.

Crane Operator:
  • Operate overhead bridge type cab controlled crane for the lifting, transporting and positioning of materials, parts and supplies.
  • Use cab controls to operate crane bridge, trolley and hoist to lift, transport and position bars on tables.

NON-ESSENTIAL TASKS:
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned or directed by management.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Manufacturing experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED
  • At least one (1) year of manufacturing experience
