Job description

Pharmaceutical Care Management Association (PCMA) – the national association representing America’s pharmacy benefit management (PBM) industry – is seeking a Senior Director, Coalitions. This role is responsible for building, managing, and expanding strategic alliances that advance the association’s federal and state public policy priorities. He or she will have strong political instincts, an understanding of health care policy and industry dynamics, and the ability to mobilize diverse stakeholders around a common cause.


The position is the primary liaison for PCMA with external organizations and will develop strategies for strengthening partnerships and coordinating across the organization. He or she will collaborate closely with PCMA government relations, policy, and communications colleagues, as well as member company representatives to find areas of common ground with third party groups and grow awareness of the value created by the pharmaceutical care management industry. This position reports to PCMA’s Chief Communications Officer and will work directly with the President and CEO.


Primary Responsibilities

Coalition Building & Management

  • Expand and manage PCMA’s network of external relationships and develop a comprehensive strategy for strategic partnerships.
  • Maintain relationships and serve as a point of contact for professionals in health care public policy positions as well as advocacy organizations across the political spectrum.
  • Think proactively to identify new potential partners and areas of common ground.
  • Harness relationships and shared goals to develop formal and informal issue-based coalitions.
  • Manage PCMA staff, their relationships, and their time to expand networks.
  • Coordinate with PCMA member companies for opportunities to improve positioning of the industry.
  • Identify and engage with aligned organizations that PCMA should financially support and manage grant-making budget.
  • Develop strategies for deepening relationships.

Advocacy & Public Affairs

  • Work with communications and advocacy colleagues to develop strategies and campaigns that activate allies to advance public policy goals.
  • Coordinate allies and coalitions to participate in public-facing debates.
  • Think creatively about opportunities to turn public policy developments into new allies.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communications

  • Draft external communications and key messages for allies.
  • Attend external meetings and conferences and speak on behalf of PCMA.

Travel Requirements: 10%


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years of experience in public policy, advocacy, government, or public affairs.

  • Knowledge of political and cultural trends affecting the industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.


Salary And Benefits:

PCMA offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The base salary range for this position is $150k - $200k with annual bonus potential between $25-50k subject to company and individual performance. PCMA offers healthcare and flex spending benefits and generous paid time off.
