Job description

Senior Director, Enterprise Architecture - PBM Modernization & Transformation
The Senior Director, Enterprise Architecture - PBM Modernization & Transformation is a senior technology executive responsible for defining and executing the architectural vision, modernization strategy, and target-state technology roadmap for the Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) organization.
This leader will spearhead the transformation of the PBM technology ecosystem, evolving legacy, monolithic platforms and point-to-point integrations into a modern, scalable, domain-driven architecture that enhances business agility, operational efficiency, and innovation. The role provides strategic leadership across application modernization, platform rationalization, cloud adoption, integration modernization, data enablement, engineering transformation, and AI-driven innovation initiatives.
Partnering closely with executive leaders across business, product, operations, engineering, and technology, the Senior Director will establish the architectural foundation required to simplify the PBM landscape, reduce technical debt, improve speed-to-market, and enable the next generation of digital healthcare capabilities.
AI will serve as a critical accelerator in this transformation journey. This leader will champion the adoption of AI-enabled software development practices to improve engineering productivity, code quality, and delivery velocity while driving the integration of Generative AI, Agentic AI, and intelligent automation into core business processes. These capabilities will improve operational efficiency, enhance decision-making, and elevate client, pharmacy, provider, and member experiences.
The Senior Director will lead a team of enterprise architects, establish architecture governance and technology standards, and oversee technology strategy across critical PBM domains, including claims processing, benefit administration, pricing, rebates, formulary management, clinical programs, pharmacy networks, and digital experience platforms.

  • Ensure AI-enabled business solutions are built on secure, scalable, compliant, and well-governed enterprise platforms.
  • Balance modernization investments across platform simplification, technical debt reduction, digital innovation, and AI-enabled business transformation.

Architecture Governance & Decision Management
  • Establish and lead architecture review processes that promote speed, transparency, and sound decision-making.
  • Define and maintain architecture principles, standards, governance frameworks, and decision records.
  • Implement architecture decision metrics and service-level expectations to improve organizational agility and reduce delivery bottlenecks.

AI-First Business Enablement

  • Drive adoption of AI capabilities across pharmacy operations, clinical programs, digital experiences, analytics platforms, and enterprise workflows.
  • Ensure enterprise AI solutions align with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards.

Delivery & Engineering Partnership
  • Partner closely with engineering leaders to ensure architectural strategies are successfully implemented and adopted.
  • Define reusable patterns, reference implementations, and technology accelerators that improve delivery consistency and speed.
  • Support early solution implementations and measure architecture adoption, business value, and operational outcomes.

Talent Development & Community Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of enterprise architects.
  • Foster architecture communities of practice and promote knowledge sharing across engineering and technology organizations.
  • Maintain enterprise architecture pattern libraries, standards repositories, and decision frameworks that enable scalable adoption of best practices.

Qualifications
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in enterprise architecture, technology strategy, or large-scale technology transformation leadership roles..
  • Proven success developing and executing enterprise-scale modernization, platform, and data strategies.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence senior leaders and drive alignment across business and technology organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale transformation initiatives in complex enterprise environments.
  • Experience integrating security, compliance, risk management, and governance practices into technology platforms and engineering organizations.
  • Exceptional communication, storytelling, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience operating in high-growth, transformation-focused, or highly regulated industries.
  • Strong strategic thinking and systems-thinking capabilities, balanced with pragmatic execution and results orientation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience within Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM), specialty pharmacy, healthcare technology, or related healthcare services organizations.
  • Prior hands-on experience in software engineering, data engineering, platform engineering, or cloud architecture before transitioning into architecture leadership.
