OPOC.us is conducting a search on behalf of a premier client employer for the position of PAYROLL & HR ASSISTANT. The selected candidate will be employed directly by the client, not by OPOC.us. Employer details will be shared during the interview process.
PAYROLL SPECIALIST
Claypool Electric, Inc. | Lancaster, Ohio
Full-Time | 100% Onsite | Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Salary Range: $57,000-$59,400 annually

POSITION SUMMARY
Claypool Electric is seeking a process-driven Payroll Specialist to support accurate, timely, and compliant payroll for a construction workforce. The successful candidate will bring practical payroll experience, strong reconciliation skills, and the ability to learn Claypool's prevailing-wage, certified-payroll, job-cost, and labor-classification processes. The role also provides limited administrative support to Human Resources.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage the payroll process from timecard review through final payroll approval.
• Process payroll and maintain payroll data in Vista by Viewpoint.
• Review hours, overtime, paid time off, reimbursements, deductions, garnishments, and payroll adjustments.
• Administer prevailing-wage and certified-payroll requirements for covered construction projects.
• Verify wage determinations, labor classifications, rates, fringe obligations, and apprenticeship information; prepare and maintain certified-payroll reports.
• Audit employee time and labor distributions for accurate job, project, phase, and cost-code allocation.
• Resolve time and payroll exceptions before deadlines and process approved employee changes.
• Reconcile payroll, taxes, deductions, benefits, and related general-ledger activity; prepare payroll, job-cost, compliance, and year-end reports.
• Respond to employee payroll questions while maintaining confidentiality.
• Provide limited HR administrative support, including onboarding records, personnel-file maintenance, benefits changes, and employee-status documentation.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Prior payroll-processing experience.
• Strong payroll reconciliation, problem-solving, accuracy, and deadline-management skills.
• Ability to learn and consistently follow detailed payroll, compliance, and job-cost processes.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information appropriately.
• Ability to work onsite in Lancaster, Ohio, five days per week. This position is not remote or hybrid.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
• Three to five years of payroll-processing experience, including construction payroll responsibility.
• Hands-on experience with prevailing-wage and certified-payroll processing.
• Working knowledge of wage determinations, labor classifications, fringe benefits, apprenticeship reporting, and certified-payroll documentation.
• Experience reviewing construction labor distributions and job-cost coding.
• Experience using Vista by Viewpoint or a comparable construction ERP; direct Vista payroll experience is strongly preferred.
• Payroll experience with an electrical contractor or similar construction employer.
• Union, apprenticeship, or multiple-classification payroll experience.
• Experience supporting a large, field-based employee population and multiple active jobsites.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The annual salary range is $57,000-$59,400.
Placement within the range will reflect the candidate's payroll experience and depth of construction payroll, Vista by Viewpoint, prevailing-wage, and certified-payroll expertise.
